I had hallucinations once from working long hours without sleep. One time I worked in the hospital for 120 hours without sleep. I would answer the phone and talk to people who never existed.

I know what you mean. Years ago I held 2 jobs and worked something like 18 hours a day and on odd occasions when I use to sit down I would start having out of body experiences!

EliteOne: I’m not bashing I was reading up how low blood pressure can make you hallucinate and one of the ways it can be reached is by lowering the heart rate.
This is the problem in the so called civilized Western world...
Scientists trying their darndest to cut spirituality out of man. Of course the blood pressure and heart rate is altered...
Meditation has been a tool for many thousands of years for connecting with the never changing source of your being and boy it does wonders for your general wellbeing.
EliteOne: I never said I don’t participate in some I’m just curious of the reason for the reason?
I'm sorry man, as we Americans say---my bad
I misunderstood your OP...I thought you said meditation was toxic--my bad.
In any case, society is saturated with stressed people who can't find clarity and harmony. A good number of them take prescription pills to alleviate their depression and anxiety. The bottom line is that a lot of people are trying to find ways to have this clarity and harmony everyday, and they try different things that are promoted---and spend a lot of money. These people ask "how" because they don't know how to find that clear thought on a daily basis. It's not enough to just say "be happy" or "think good and clear thoughts", people want a constructive and practical plan. They want teachers to teach them in a sense. I mean, a teacher or a coach teaches and shows how to reach a solution and how to tackle a problem. They just don't say solve this or play this way without teaching them first. So to just say "be happy" is not enough for many people who work many hours and have had multiple failures in their lives, some people need to be taught how to reach clarity/happiness---by the right approach of course. It sure as hell isn't taught in grade school or high school, and that's a major flaw with the western educational system.

My concentration is only good for 3 minutes and then I have to light up a smoke and gloat about how good I was...

I totally agree people need to be even tot happiness. That makes me really wonder as to why we are on this intellectual level? Nothing comes easy to humans and this is one of the reasons I started this topic with the scenario in mind. Clear mind for humans would be enlightening but for some reason we seek out toxicity instead.

Well, it takes no effort to get wasted and numb out the feelings that are stressing you It is a much grander effort to clear the static without alcohol and drugs, but it's certainly more efficient and safe. Alcohol and drugs are a huge part of our culture in so many ways, and people have realized that using them is the easiest way out in that moment. It's an escape from the state of being when they are not on drugs or drunk---and many become addicted and just don't want to fight depression without the drugs and alcohol. And when I mean drugs, I'm talking about meth and alcohol in all forms---a society and body-mind killer.

there are more ways to destroy you mind and body then just alcohol and drugs! What about toxic literature in form of advertising, subliminal messaging in commercials, toxic politics.. etc when you think you‘ve got a grip on reality its when you haven’t because your thoughts don’t belong to you as much as much as you think. At the end of the day you are only a follower and a repeater of somebody else’s philosophies and mind manipulations.

Not once you get the hang of thinking for yourself. It becomes second nature to look critically at any given situation or scenario and you make conscious decisions - being a follower soon becomes impossible as your personal mind filters stamp your individuality on all that it assimilates.......

It is why people joined contemplative orders years ago and lived in really isolated places.....It was to keep the mind pure, (free from outside influences), for higher forms of processing.
Also depends on your definition of reality........

But what are you replacing it with? more literature which is not generated by your thoughts to start with. Education system? Which has already patterned your thoughts?

You do have to feed your mind yes, it cant exist in stillness 24/7 - its about preparing it to function in the real world as opposed to in its comfort zone and learning how to keep your inner peace in all situations but you have to be selective in both what you feed it (physically and mentally) and your perceptions. Toxic people are more of a problem for me personally than much else....

Learning is an ongoing process of rejection or assimilation - the choice is yours and if you find you have patterened thoughts then you have to opportunity to re-pattern as you see fit - fluidity is the key.......
