Jesus, its very unfortunate that the PIGS have to stop someone furthering there education just because of some wrong-doings in the past, it is not right. Everyone is a sinner. That is not just or fair. scold

What about CERT?. I dont know how it works now but they used to train you and give you a training allowance while at college and then on placement the employer paid you. It is or was at the time a certified city and guilds course two years Professional Cookery course. You could then do a third year more specialized course.
Good luck with itwave

You have to apply to your local Co. Council. Application forms are usually available in July or August.

Keep all your CAO details, number, offer etc as you will need these for your grant application. They base your eligibility on last years income. Grant rates are higher if you are claiming social welfare.

If you are signing on more than 9 months at the start of your course.. apply for Back to Education Allowance. You get to keep your Jobseekers Benefit/Allowance and it is paid at full rate regardless of whether you have means assessed against you before the course. Up to this year there was a "book allowance" of €500 which is paid out once you have confirmation that you have started the course. Don't know if that will be paid this year..cutbacks and all that. Won't know til probably August.

Hope this all helps and good luck with the course.

Maybe it does not exist anymore but I know a lot of chefs who trained in Killybegs and they were funded by CERT. The courses were offered in Colleges all around the country and it was a world wide recognized qualification at the time. Nice while it lasted, going to college and getting paid for it.
From what I remember the applications had to be in early and then there was an interview process.
