The Ancients referred to artistic temperment as "divine madness"
In the companion thread POE I bumped an old thread to celebrate EAP's birthday. The "Poe Toaster",the mystery-man did not appear this morning with his tribute of roses and brandy. It was the first time in 60 years the observance failed to happen. So let's do it ourselves.
If you also loved this poor tormented madman wont you join me in raising a glass to Divine Madness?

Then tell us about your own "Madman" or Woman.Poet,Lyricist whatever.
Who can move You with Words?

Salute,Edgar Allan.

I have wrought my simple plan
if I give one hour of joy
To the boy who's half a man
or the man who's half a boy

Sir Arthur, perhaps not mad, nor poet or lyricist, but one of my favoritesbeer

Roses are red
Violets are blue
Some poems rhyme
But this one doesn't

The Human Abstract
by: William Blake (1757-1827)

Pity would be no more
If we did not make somebody poor,
And Mercy no more could be
If all were as happy as we.

And mutual fear brings Peace,
Till the selfish loves increase;
Then Cruelty knits a snare,
And spreads his baits with care.

He sits down with his holy fears,
And waters the ground with tears;
Then Humility takes its root
Underneath his foot.

Soon spreads the dismal shade
Of Mystery over his head,
And the caterpillar and fly
Feed on the Mystery.

And it bears the fruit of Deceit,
Ruddy and sweet to eat,
And the raven his nest has made
In its thickest shade.

The gods of the earth and sea
Sought through nature to find this tree,
But their search was all in vain:
There grows one in the human Brain.

He could have written this of me........

Alone
Edgar Allan Poe

From childhood's hour I have not been
As others were; I have not seen
As others saw; I could not bring
My passions from a common spring.

These days I like the poetry of

Miroslav Holub

"The Teaching of the Master"

He spoke
and the shirts of penitents
fell to the ground, impregnated.

It was the Caesarian section of thought,
plush dolls were born, jubilating.
It was a profile of Everyman,
cut out of black paper.
Ladybugs crawled out from under our fingernails.
Trumpets were heard at the walls of Jericho.
Our genes sizzled.

It was magnificent, as he spoke.
It's just that I can't recall
what he was talking about.

and Emily Dickinson

"Wild Nights -wild nights".

Wild Nights – Wild Nights!
Were I with thee
Wild Nights should be
Our luxury!

Futile – the winds –
To a heart in port –
Done with the compass –
Done with the chart!

Rowing in Eden –
Ah, the sea!
Might I moor – Tonight –
In thee!

The ancient tradition that the world will be consumed by fire in 6,000 years, is true, as I have heard from hell.

The whole creation will be consumed, and appear infinite, and holy, whereas it now appears, finite, and corrupt.

This will come to pass, by an improvement of sensual enjoyment.

If the doors of perception were cleansed, everything would appear to man as it is............... Infinite!

William Blake

Used in the Jim Jarmusch film "Deadman" starring Jonny Depp... for me ... powerful words
