Eamonl: Hi all,Ive been a member of this site for a while but this is my first post.Im curious to hear your views on the following;
I have a 20 month old daughter who lives in the UK.I pay maintenance monthly like any father should but recently my ex has started asking for more..ie a new laptop so I can see my daughter on the webcam and cash for a deposit to rent a new place,she maintains the place she is in at the moment is damp and it will better for the child if she moved,she has asthma.Now I have no problem paying out for stuff for my daughter but this seems a bit excessive to me,Is it just me or is this a bit unreasonable of her.Interested to hear your views...

I`m not sure on this 1 but I think you could get away without paying any maintenance at all seen as your child lives ina different country, a mate of mine did that and didnt get into trouble over it but then again why would you not want to pay for your child, after all she is your flesh and blood

Galwaygirl1970: Eamon, if you have an agreement that is signed between ye, try and stick to it. Personally speaking me and my ex husband stick to everything we agreed on which is he pays child maintenance, half on school stuff, birthdays and xmas. Unless ye can compromise and go half and half on the stuff. I think 20 months is a bit young to be going on a webcam...if the child was older I would agree she would prob like a laptop but at the moment she is too young. Just my personal opinion, nobody bite please

I agree. I'd suggest you pay half. That seems fair.

As for the laptop, 20 months old does seem a bit young to be going on webcam. Its not like you are going to be talking on skype or anything. Whats wrong with regular photos via email?

I'm not being mean here but it would be cheaper to buy her a basic digital camera and have her email you photos regularly. If you do decide to buy her a laptop, i'd go for a netbook (mini laptop) instead of a laptop. From what I've heard and red, they are not as powerful as a laptop but do the same job more or less, most of them come with a built-in webcam and are far cheaper. One way of finding out if she is taking the mick is to ask what kind of laptop she is looking for. If its top of the range she is looking for instead of a netbook or even a used laptop, then you'll have your answer.

if she wants to move, let her sort that out for herself...if you like "help" her out with a bit....if it is damp.

DO NOT BUY HER A LAPTOP!!

stick to your original maintenance payments!....

If she thinks she can get away with this...what else will she do!...

(this is from a person who doesn't get maintenance)....

jmo!

best of luck.handshake

well the laptop is also to benefit him aswell so cant see his problem None of us know how much maintenance he is paying lets face it I've heard guys boast about paying maintenacne and moan about their ex in the same breath only to find out he was payin up 40 a week for two kids and she had them 24/7 ... You and I kno 40 is chicken feed when it comes to kids so my opinion is if they can afford to give their children a god quality of life so be it...JMO
