I prefer books actually. I've tried reading mens minds.... Not a good idea!
Actually though I'm really interested in history right now. I also read alot of romance ones written by christian authors, you know the way love & courtship the way it's suppose to be.
I like to read everything from cereal boxes to the poems of D.H. Lawrence (He also wrote Ladies Chatterly's Lover- but the poems are better yet)- Shakespeare- to Lucas Davenport "Prey" novels- I despise fluff reading (though have been known to enjoy Calvin and Hobbs and Far Side Cartoons), never read a romance novel in its purest form, since I took a class in how to "write a romance novel" and discovered that there is a formula for these books...(by page 32-35 they meet, by page 75-99 there is a crisis, etc, etc) even down to basically scripting how the characters should be...(women should not have ALL their crap together, but should be stronger in character and more together then men, etc. etc.)...Somehow, knowing this, took all the fun out of reading the books, I was watching romance novels to see at what page these items transpired and was even making notations in the margins...hence, back to classics, (am reading Ben Hur now)...and my serial killer books I am so fond of...and my humor books- love old Erma Bombeck and Dave Barry...
I also read technical journals about safety and health in the workplace and just finished this article, "PPE, in the workplace, the cutting edge of respirator safety"...(which, as I am in the field, I actually read by choice and enjoyed... )... I am sure you all would love it on those nights when you cant sleep if you arent in Occupational Safety and Health fields....people in my field get "hot" for the weirdest things- I once had a two hour discussion at a conference with a guy on ear plugs...
Mostly I dont have alot of time to read these days, between work, kids, and social life, I am hopping! And also, am writing a book on dating... then a promised one for my kiddos about raising them...
So I guess this either makes me well read, or very boring, huh????
Thomas Harris is a fantastic writer. Im a special kind of idiot, I read the Hannibal series in the complete opposite of order. There was 10 years between, so I figure we got about, what, 6 years or so left until the next one?
I also love Patricia Cornwell. She is genius and by the end of page 1 in everyone of her books, Im hooked and its hard to put down. Dr. Kay Scarpetta is just about my most favorite literary characters! There is a lot of depth there.
John Grisham is another one. Crime and law are fascinating to me and his story lines never seem to get old to me, they are always different and entralling. A Time To Kill has to be my favorite of his. Very thought provoking!
Then of course Dean Koontz. I am an avid fan and collector of his books. His books twist and turn to places you would never imagine going and at the last page, you are left wanting, no, yearning for more; which isn't to say that the story isn't complete, because it is, but its almost like you want it to be an on-going series. Sole Survivor was one of the best.
I have read a lot of Hoover's writings(not THAT Hoover either, I imagine there will be very few people on here that will know who that is, sry) and Tookie Williams also. I read autobiographies of people that interest me, Dennis Leary, Tupac, Helen Keller, just different people...
Im a huge JRR Tolkien Fan - my dad started reading the Hobbit to me when I was 4 (he used to make each character have a diff voice). By this point in my life I consider myself to have alot of knowledge about MiddleEarth and a huge collection. Also recently I began reading the first 2 books by Christopher Paolini - Earagon and Eldest - at 19 he is being herelded as the next Tolkien. Just finished his second book and awaiting the 3rd - his movie will be out in DEC.
