You have the RIGHT to be safe. Living in the UK those rights are slightly different than in the USA but you still have the right to be safe.
Keep in mind that you are important and that you deserve to be safe.
The average criminal is also very concerned with THEIR safety. Sometimes just seeing that you are alert will make them look for an easier victim who is "sleep walking".
