When I was in Indonesia I had a good job at a University in Bandung and had a lot of money relative to the local economy. So my girlfriends' parents considered me to be a pretty good prospective catch. But I just couldn't imagine it working out.

They are mature adults applying the values of their own culture and they have every right to do so.
Asian marriages, while perhaps lacking in romantic love, are nonetheless functional and much more stable than marriages in western countries.
As the new economic realities take effect over the next few years I would guess that western nations will begin to emulate Asia in many ways, including being a lot more pragmatic about love and marriage.

well i think those that married for money and exit visa,s, are the smartest people around, who the hell in todays world wants to marry some broke s.o b. just be lucky they just want your money, the women in my country want your money, the house, the car,the boat, and would dig up the dog that died two years ago and take it. so if you want to marry for money or exit visa,s no matter where the hell your from, you certainly have my undying alliance and support..and may god bless all gold diggers..the smartest people in the whole damn world
