I agree they can be. hugging is not wrong. Intelligent woman can have friends with men and we can all get along. Boundaries , common interests and honest communication. Of course we can be just friends. I like women friends yet as of now I only have really one best woman friend. I have more guy friends. usually the opposite. I say my sons are my favorite friends

I have male friends that I have known for over 25 years and we have never even thought about being anything other than friends so, yes, I believe it is totally possible.

I also have just friend males in my life. They are the ones that I have no "chemistry" with. It works. When there is chemistry, they become "special friends" or boyfriends.

Sure! I have several male friends. One friend I talk to on the phone and we literally do nothing, but tell jokes and laugh ourselves silly.

I believe they can be just friends without the "benefits"
I have known a woman for about 11 - 12 years now and consider her to be one of my best friends. We have never met face to face but have talked thru IM, email, phone and web cam.
I may finally get to meet her this coming Oct as I have been invited to her daughters wedding.
Have been checking out airfare between NH and Texas. At present they are quite reasonable at just below $300 for a roundtrip. I am seriously considering it.
Of course there can be no more than being friends as she is happily married herself
