Not all of Islam attacked America, just terrorists who happened to be Muslims. Building a mosque builds bridges and stops issues growing. Obama is supporting it because things like that stop hate and divisions growing.

i dont know if its a good or bad idea, and i can understand why people would be for and against it.. but anything to do with religious views or ideals or whatever are so intertwined with peoples sense of identity its hard not to offened anyone anymore...

YUP, I can tell by all the posts on here that the US people are absolutely delighted by this idea.
I don't see any problem with it at all. Those a**hole that flew into the twin towers were fanatics, most Muslims aren't. I'm sure mosques are built everyday all over the world, so what if this particular one happens to be near where this tragedy occured. If they were building it slap bang in the middle of ground zero that would be a different story.
I know a 3-4 years ago when i asked to see the inside of a Mosque in the UK whilst on Hols ...and explained i was over on Hols from Ireland the Imam said "no Infidel or Christian could enter his mosque" and called the Police ....I couldnt believe it ..Paranoia or whaaaa

That sort of fanaticism is wrong in any religion. It is so sad that there are people thinking like that and the problem is getting worse. If it carries on, it could become an "us against them" situation that will get even more out of hand. The sad thing is that such attitudes are actually pretty new and have little or nothing to do with Islam.
Same way that radical Catholics, Protestants etc now and in the past are in no way representative of what they say they are standing for.

Yeah thats what he said and i agree with him but I'm not sure everyone will see it like that. I think its just asking for trouble and they probably should find somewhere else for it because i can see people protesting outside it and there could even be violence.
Not all Moslems are terrorists but there is bound to be some idiots that think otherwise.

If I had my way, there would be no religious aspect to public life at all, but I can see how building a mosque there would be useful.
