Who else likes cast iron for cooking?

I have four frying pans I use, two covered pots, a dutch oven, a corn pone pan, muffin pans, round and rectangular skillets and an assortment of extra frying pans and various pots in reserve for use or gifts for the deserving.

I just think food tastes better cooked in well seasoned iron.

What about you?

I agree with you.
The pans are hard to service.

I have never had the pleasure of cooking in cast iron before I moved here; could never afford them.

But they are great, yes!

I am collecting more at yard sales when I can, and am learning about how they need to be seasoned.

cast iron is great....holds an even heat and distributes it well... and lasts long.....but for a lotta ppl at home has the downsides of bein heavy, longer heat up time and less easy to wash than the usual non stick, quick pans nowadays...if ur into ur cookin as a hobby tho, cast iron gets the thumbs up...i use it at home thumbs up

I have two cast iron frying pans somewhere. Think they disappeared in NC after I was shipped home to NH.

My father loved to stop at yardsales to see if they had any cast iron pans and he would look for certain makers marks on the bottoms. We have so many at the family camp, they would probably sink a battleship laugh

No apologies necessary, wood & charcoal are renewable fuels. I love trees but I also partially heat my house with a wood burning stove.

Is cast iron cookware very expensive in the UK? I'm somewhat surprised because Great Briton lead the world in iron at the dawn of the industrial revolution.

Cast iron is great...once seasoned you can do anything with it...they last forever and you don't have to worry about using a fork or something and scratching it....
