i disagree wholeheartedly. the only other clear chance of i can think united had was Nani's effort off the post

and personally i think Torres' pace would have brought him to the ball before Van Der Saar. i've seen the replays and am 100% on this

jbill: last man = STRAIGHT RED CARD. no excuses

and i'm sorry but from my experience united fans are very ungracious. the only one i can think of that isn't is my uncle

i never said there shouldn't be credit where credit's due. Berbatov had a fantastic game. One of the best hat-tricks i've ever seen. I never said united played badly

Stats mean nothing. Liverpool did equally well to come back into the math. And were robbed by a refereeing decision. End of

First of all, last man does not equal straight red card. Check the rule book, you are very much mistaken. It is a red card for denying a clear goalscoring opportunity. It looked much likelier that Van der Saar was getting to the ball first.

Secondly, I am not sure what you are basing your experience on. I doubt it is on actual match going United fans. The ones who applauded Ronaldo off the pitch after his hat-trick for Real Madrid. Or United fans who applauded Arsenal after they won the league at Old Trafford. Hearsay from your local area is not exactly proof of what United fans are like. Well not actual United fans from Manchester anyway.

Liverpool were not robbed by the referee. Not even Steven Gerrard is saying that. Liverpool were second best for at least 70% game, that is why they lost. Liverpool got back into the match through a stroke of luck with a penalty. Then Fletcher being unfairly pulled out of the wall left a gap for Gerrards free kick to sail in.

jbill: You might as well be talking to yourself. You're spouting partisan nonsense

We'll leave it at that

Get a grip with reality. I am hardly saying United were excellent. The defence was shocking. But you are talking pure guff. Roy Hodgson himself has said that Liverpool were second best for most of the game. If you don't believe me, how about this from BBC?

In response to: Dimitar Berbatov's rejuvenation continued as his brilliant hat-trick gave Manchester United a fully deserved win against Liverpool at Old Trafford.

The Bulgarian striker scored either side of the interval - the second a stunning overhead kick - to put Sir Alex Ferguson's side in complete control against a subdued Liverpool.

Liverpool were thrown a lifeline by United's frailty in defence as Steven Gerrard scored twice in six minutes midway through the second half from the penalty spot and a 20-yard free-kick, both awarded for fouls on Fernando Torres, to put the Merseysiders in sight of an unlikely point.

Berbatov was determined to have the final say, however, and he scored his and United's third with a towering header six minutes from time to seal the victory.

i read the BBC review. I don't agree with it. Unless, of course, a single review is Law

anyway i love football, i have a real passion for it. But i'm only interested in talking to people who can be humble when talking about it, no matter who they bloody support. That includes being able to admit when your team was lucky. You don't seem to be able to do that

So good luck handshake

absolutely i can't see anyone catching Chelsea really if things keep up the way they are

though you can never rule out Ferguson

and Arsenal seem strong this year

Liverpool aren't doing so bad, i think. Let's not forget Benitez left the place in a bit of a heap. i think Hodgson's a top manager, and i think given a bit of time he'll prove that

Thanks for putting words in my mouth and making illogical leaps based on a few posts. I don't like talking to people who assume everything about other people based on a few lines of text. I could have posted links to every match review on the net, I chose one. I am hardly saying that is law. I am taking it you were not on your school's debate team judging by your argument skills. United were obviously lucky to regain the lead. But they still deserved to win.

Evans and Evra were poor/average again. The defensve slips must be a worry for Fergie. Scholes faded in midfield in the second half. He controlled the game brilliantly in the first half but the pace got to him a bit in the second half. Same thing happened Giggs in the second half. Anderson might have come back at a good time from his and the team's perspective. Rooney out wide left might be a decent option in the next few weeks given his poor form and the Valencia injury shifting Nani to the right for the forseeable future.

But overall, they played well and are looking good from an attacking perspective. 3 more goals and there could have been more.

Interesting to see Chelsea against City and Arsenal in their next 2 games. Their first real tests of the season.

bodleing: Not according to the ref, or Dermot Gallagher who has just been interviewed on the radio.
The law says, "It has to be an obvious goalscoring opportunity."
The ref didn't think it was, nor do I for that matter.

It's quite rare a referee or his assistants (or an ex referee lol) admit to making a mistake. They want to keep face, and it's their livelihood, afterall

anyway having watched the replays many times (watched it again just now), i believe it was a definite goalscoring opportunity, so we'll have to disagree on that one

The main point being made was that the ball was running away from Torres and it was debatable whether he would have got to it before Van der Sar. I've not seen a replay of it so I'll watch MOTD tonight with interest.

cheers

I was discussing the positives and negatives of United's performance. It was in direct relation to my first paragraph where I mentioned United being lucky to regain the lead, but still deserving to win.

Do you have to nit-pick and completely misrepresent everything I say?

My point is that your opinions seem skewed by your zealous loyalty towards the team that you support. Feel free to prove to me (and the forum) otherwise handshake
