when does being impartial/neutral in the realm of world politics been easy? the thought of not geting involved in acts of violence against warring countries, but stil maintaing good political relations with both, that does require a effort far greater than doing the right thing, remaining neutral you wll recieve active complaints and advice from both sides if indeed they are fortunate enough to only have two sides of a matter. Again remaining neutral despite your citizenry or economic situation is a commitment to be proud of, not to be swayed the dollaror pound , the citizens nationalties ties. you say no decision need to be made I see a different scenario by being neutral you have decision to make regarding all sides of whatever world politcal matter is in the forefront. and finally I could be wrong but Canada is not nuetral in world politics the are always there for humanity and medical relief and disasters, there are many countries that think let them die. Cananda is not neutral they just are not war mongers they'll get involved and have. And quite frnkly I enjoy having Canadains as neighbors and respect and admire their convictions in this act of "Being Neutral".
it was a generalized statement actualy....not applying to just war
There are people out there hwo see nutreality in itself as choosing sides.....these are the people who you cant ignore....you put down your arms to your side and they will continue to hit you in the face anyways
I am of thinking that remaining neutral is making a choice, and it shouild be considered that inaction inpolitics is picking sides some times. status quo comes to mind.
Insofar as war goes, I have a hard time comprehending why civilized societies think they have no other recourse for solving their problems other than killing people and destroying the environment.
I love Canada's role in helping other nations and being "peacekeepers" as well; however I don't like that fact that politically we seem to have the view that being neutral means that we will never be a target by terrorists or that nothing bad can happen in our country...simply because we are NICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think that by dismantling our military we have left Canada open to everything and anything that could possibly happen as now we have no way to even defend our own country...if we should god forbid be targetted by terrorists and we have shown ourselves to be totally vulnerable!!!!!
Previous politicians have not even wanted to acknowledge that we DO have terrorist cells in our counrtry and that we are in fact on Bin Laden's HIT LIST!!!!!!!!!!
I don't see doing the right thing in this case as being the best thing for Canada....But reality would be nice in this new age of terrorsim and protection of our own country and it's people would be nice too!!!!!!!!!!!!
good to see you live in the reality that so many in this world seem seem to be evading.....there isnt a non-extreme nation on earth that is not on a list somewhere
One thing to keep in mind is that terrorism can be homegrown as well there are many extreme factions out there Canada yes has been seen in a peacekeeping role but we have to remember that our soldiers are trained to do what they are doing now and that is go to a war zone and be soldiers. nuetrality wont get us anywhere and beng part of the U.N and Nato makes it hard for us as a nation to step back and be nuetral we have commitments that need to be honored.
being neutral in world conflicts and politics and keeping your own countrys soil guarded/protected is different issues, as for the disarming or disbanding of the military, I disagree with that.
I actualy saw the mayor of san Fransisco say just that; "dis-band our military, we dont need it" those kind of people scare the hell out of me...scares me even more to see them come into power of some sort
extremeist of any politcal .religious , faction are just bad news for everyone including themselves. I expect soon the rules/guideines over airspace to be frontpage
sometimes both are the wrong thing to do,for no one knows what tomorrow will bring.but sometimes making a stand or doing the right thing is better than doing nothing at all
if everyone is involved who better to help negotiate an accord between combatants??? someone has to....my pick would be the country who is and has been neutral hruout the course of the conflict.
