I am a phone person. Tried IM once. Can't chew gum and walk at the same time. So I respond to a post, then wait 2 days for a reply. So be it. Spoke to a woman a few days ago, by phone. She was talking to me while chatting to several other people on IM at the same time. Is it my age, or does decorum still count ? Rules change with technology, but one on one should take priority. I am well aware of all the new technologies within communication, yet there's nothing that can replace the art of conversation, whether by phone or the written word. Paws

For me, chatting on Yahoo IM is like trying to have a conversation in a crowded airport.
I prefer the phone. However, if I had a phone bill like wikked and Dreamer's, I'd be chatting on Yahoo also.

the ability to multi-task in the ways of communication..is insulting and demeaning to some... I think mostly us men

I think its rude to be im'ing people while chatting on the phone unless you or the other party doesn't care.I find cell phone usage during a register transaction while others are waiting for you to hang up and pay is the ultimate in rude.In general manners and class seem to fast be making an exit from this society.

I just hate that when someone calls me or I call them and while talking to me they are chatting with others on the computer.
When I had high speed if someone called me I didn't go near the computer because I wanted to focus my attention on the call and not other things around me etc...

I too, tried IM but have not signed on in a many a day because all of it is all to much. Busied out....not available signs....don't like you so I won't answer....those who talk too much when you didn't even want to talk.....can't help it cause as soon as I boot up, it starts.....people who you thought you liked and then didn't see you're on line....

well, as to simultaneous talking with others, i certainly would consider that rude, mr. paws!!! i have a very steadfast rule about such things and i kindly but clearly mention it should i be on the receiving end. you are quite a distance from me. read my profile and perhaps we will have some things in common. bye for now.
