jeepers: So in a way, it really isn't depleting the earth, because they were planted specifically for Christmas, but what if they had to plant one tree for every Christmas tree, and left it to grow ?
Yes, I get your point. Tree replanting does happen but there could be more couldn't there. There is problems with ownership of the land and the financial return the owners of it would get just to plant trees forever. Perhaps if Government(us) paid them an anual fee per standing tree.
Scotland was once all trees, the Great Caledonian forest. Only small protected areas remain. It was all cut down, used up and exported.

jahzah: Remember just because you buy a house and put ya picket fences up doesn't mean its your land. It is and will always belong to the mother earth. You are just borrowing the plot

popsiclestoes: No The bank REALLY owns it
Wrong, they also are buying and selling money they don't even have. Essentially the earth belongs to M.N and when the humans kill themselves the earth and M.N will still flourish

Wow ! What a list ! The water thing....you would be amazed. On this island, all water is made by reverse osmosis...water from the sea that is purified into potable water. This is expensive, thus, expensive water. I learned quickly after moving here how precious water is. When I go visit people in other places I am amazed at how much water is taken for granted . Thanks for the input inkognito.

It all depends on how you get your water. Where I work, we have an expensive R/O plant and we produce our own water. The electricity is very expensive. As for residences....everyone uses a cistern to collect rain water. If it doesn't rain much...which is normal during the winter months...we have to have water delivered and put in the cistern...a truckload of 5,000 gallons costs around $300 US.

We even get a bonus from the government when we buy a car with less co2 emissions and economical in gas.
Sounds very progressive, Finland is very environmental friendy, but in a country with only 5 mill people, larger than England and with much of the country covered by forests pollution is less. Though aroung the big cities it is getting a bit worse, though nothing like London.

We have very strict environmental laws when it comes to the land and sea, but the air....it depends on who you know. I bet that the people who run trucking companies here all have good friends in high political positions because they get away with polluting the air with black emissions from there trucks which can be reduced if the trucks were maintained properly.
