My thoughts entirely, until I lived and worked in Africa and many other countries, I work with it everyday. Driving through dying wheatfields in Africa, I asked the local driver, "why are we delivering this convoy of trucks full of wheat from America when all this is being left to rot" he replied, "when America comes in and gives it away it destroys the local market,it is not worth the farmers harvesting it, the people get it for free, but of course we are then dependent upon America forever", just have a look at PJ O'Rourke on that subject.

A great one is GM modified crops, in came America and spent $Millions trying to persuade the farmers to use GM modified crops, resistent to blight and hardy, resistent to drought, a perfect answer for Africa, while trying to encourage a local farmer to buy the GM seeds and maybe try and get some funding to pay for all the local farmers to have access, he turned to me a said, "but Boss, if we do this thing, every year we have to buy the seeds again from America" certain he had got this wrong, I checked and sure enough, GM seeds are sterile, instead of keeping back some of the last crop seeds untill next year, you have to buy new seeds every year, so therefore the increased production goes to pay the US suppliers for the seeds every year, a bit like dope dealers, let them work and produce be dependent and then take a cut every year, but those farmers were not as stupid as the suppliers thought.

as long as some people making Billions from Carbon-Exchange ..........

Really didn't want to be back again, said far too much, but the above interests me, Conrad is absolutely right!, obviously I cannot say too much but, the Mandatory UN CDM Process to offset carbon is a disaster, `the number of so called auditors supended for "fiddling the books" , just put CDM DOE suspended into Google. And then we have the Voluntary Market, designed by big busines to feed the Financial Institutions with money while the economy is weak, the Academics are having one continual Birthday Party writing White Papers which will be filed away somewhere.

Right again, I had a meeting about three years ago in London with him when he launched yet another Environmental Investment scheme, he is clueless as to what the whole thing is about and is merely the Frontman for some big Wall Street Interests.

While being a tad off subject, perhaps the above brings a perspective to the amount of nonsense and plain BS that Politicians do little about except to worry about banning smoking, it is just a amazing!

Well… I don’t know anything poisonous wheat, perhaps it’s true.

Though I want to object on your statement that smoking is a little thing in the perspective. As I see it, it’s not little. Especially in the perspective that you pointing on. The perspective in this case is a double moral standards, and it’s not little issue if you ask me.

Taxes on tobacco are a very precious income source for any government with a lot of ambitions on the social field. On the one side, those taxies affect smokers only, which authority claim is for the smokers’ own good because it’s supposed to encourage them to quit smoking that is damaging for their health. (And smoking indeed is damaging for health.) On the other side, reducing amount of smokers reduces as well amount of tax revenue and forces the said government to either reduce its ambitions in social fields or invent new source of financing them. Which of course would be higher taxes on some other products (Fuel? Those prices have already left our transitory earth and become something cosmic, at least here in Sweden. Clothes? Entertainment?), a very unpopular maneuvre at any times.

From the case described in OP, it looks like as an attempt to reduce incidence (occurrence of new smokers) as the old once already know what they want. Time will prove whether it would be successful, but the attempt is worth applause.

Is THIS the "Beginning of the End"?

Yes, I think it is.
It's definitely the rise of the New World Order.

Check out the same globalist trend as applied to food under the new Global trade agreement called Codex Alimentarius and other recent regulations and laws in the US that will put real farmers out of business and replace them with the agro-alimentary industry.

JAN_is: No I haven´t, well except for a sneaky drag of a friend´s ciggie a few weeks ago after one too many vinos! But most people seem to smoke here in Spain, and I haven´t seen any "white sheets".

The Spanish never abide by the law though.

You aren't Spainish (don't give me the 'When in Rome' line)...You've come back over to the dark side but are in denial...

When Russia fell under communist control all choice disappeared from the stores. Even as late as the 60s many shops would only have 1 or 2 types of vegetables for sale at any given time, and meat was practically unavailable to the common people for weeks or months at a time (except on the black market where it was available but very expensive).

Bureaucratic socialism is to black marketeers what the prohibition was to bootleggers.

I take your point and it is reasonable, however, alcohol itself is much more dangerous than smoking, alcoholism rates are increasing dramatically across Europe, not many smokers after a few cigarettes fight and attack people and i have not seen homeless families due to smoking but I have seen it in alcoholic families. Having a cigarette is not likely to cause you to lose your job or produce alcohol deformities in babies when pregmant mothers drink to excess. More people die through alcohol related illness than smoking and the cost to our social security and health services is something like ten times more than smoking related problems, so if we are going to be fair:

1) Alcohol should be only available in plain wrappers
2) The Alcohol producers should pay for the social damage they cause
3) alcoholic drinks advertising should be banned
there should be massive health warnings on every bottle that contains alcohol.
If we learn from the Scandanavian Country's, where due to cost many people make their own alcohol which can turn into wood alcohol and kill you, has making alcohol very expensive solved the problem?, the answer is no.

Of course, I drink and smoke, and have no intention of quitting, hopefully, I am considerate to other people with both habits respecting their viewpoint, dont smoke in my own house and moderate with alcohol, and I am happy, so I will keep paying the taxes on cigarettes and alcohol and keep enjoying myself!, anyone who likes a smoke and some good wine and a good meal, come down to Lisbon, most Retaurants have a smoking area or the whole place is, the best idea that I have seen locally is that there is no smoking untill 10pm, lets the non smkers or people with children have their time but after ten its ok to smoke, something for everyone.

I don’t argue the dangers of alcohol, and there’s a lot of other dangerous things, prescribed drugs included. I just happened to understand this thread as being about restrictions on smoking, that’s all. Being less dangerous than something else, it still has its negative impact on one’s health and I’m glad that there are attempts to reduce the damage.

All, you’ve said about Scandinavian home woven spirits, is true and I agree that prohibition is never good for anything. Education. Deglamourization (is there such a word?) Alternative life style and way to think. Would that help? Don’t know… might…

And to round it up: I smoked for 24 years, and when I found that I didn’t enjoy smoking anymore I couldn’t quit it. I tried few times and I couldn’t. I bought Champix, pills that reduce abstinence, but couldn’t start taking them. But for about a year ago, I’ve got high fever and it was raining heavy, and I had only one packet of cigarettes left, and the weather forecast was hopeless for few coming days… I understood that in a day I’d be out of cigarettes and ‘d have to suffer an abstinence, and then decided (in order not to suffer without reason grin ) to start the Champix cure. Just because of unavailability. I still can’t say I quit smoking, I just haven’t smoked for almost a year. Sometimes I think that if tobacco wasn’t that easy to get, perhaps I wouldn’t start smoking in the first place.

But for them who enjoy smoking – I have nothing against it so long I don’t have to share your enjoyment while not enjoying it myself.

cheers

You're right Phoenix it happens.

It's like fraternity initiation rites.
They seem silly, but on a psychological level there are very real reasons for them.

People who get together in public for good reasons that serve society have certain protocols and procedures for doing things. Parliamentary procedure for example.

But those procedures and protocols wouldn't work in the case of people meeting in secret for sinister reasons.

The word "occult" really means "secret rituals" and all secretive or sinister groups have their set of occult practices.

People engaged in horrible activities can't call on the police to settle disputes, nor can they plead their case in the press. So even among the very evil there are hierarchies and rules and procedures. Many of them ritualized. The upper levels of Freemasonry are an extreme case. So are the upper levels of the Vatican or just about any big religion. Nothing is every public and open. It's hidden and secretive.

When the people at Bohemian Grove worship the big owl. They don't think of it as an idol or a god. It represents the Cabal of secrecy of which they are a part.

There are rumors and some supporting evidence that sometimes there is human sacrifice at the grove. Here again. It's not really to invoke some sort of demonic aid.

It's to make everybody present a willing accessory to that murder, equally guilty of the crime. And that assures that nobody will betray the group.

But really whether you see it as demon worship or intimidation against betrayal, the result is the same. It's only a difference of intent, and that's disputable.

It's easier to think of it as demon worship and that actually makes its resulting dynamics more clear.

Chrisys:
There is a well known US based chemical company that produced the Agent Orange that American Troops used to destroy the jungle foliage cover during the Vietnam war, despite the knowledge that it caused cancer and other serious illness in the North Vietnamese population, after the war, they had so much of it left and all paid for by the American Government that they sold it to the poor countries as herbicide, especially the fruit growing regions of South Africa, very soon the incidence of ADD in children became epidemic, the fruit exported to Europe was full of it and lo and behold up went the incidence of ADD. so do you think this chemical company stopped selling?, no they then invented Rittilin, which controls the affects of ADD, so, you sell a damaging chemical and then you sell the answer!. did the EU or anyone ban this or do anything?, no. because as a very major American corporate with huge investments in Europe, the EU could not dare to upset them.

Why that's the very same company that is trying to gain a world monopoly on all food production using its patented genetically modified seeds and its strongly residual herbicide to destroy all possibility of competition, isn't it?

Their motto being, "nothing grown, that we don't own".

Chrisys:

A considerable amount of the wheat grown in the vast Mid West of America, is grown for the World Food Programme, paid for by the American tax payer, on a visit there to a farm I joked with the Farmers Wife, "that she didnt have far to go for the bread", the Farm is in the middle of thousands of acres of wheat. Her response was stunning!, "oh no" said she, "this is for the Africans, it is so toxic that we are not allowed to use it, we go 20 miles to the Wal-Mart store for our bread".
While being a tad off subject, perhaps the above brings a perspective to the amount of nonsense and plain BS that Politicians do little about except to worry about banning smoking, it is just a amazing!

And that sounds like intentional but hidden genocide of poor populations disguised as humanitarian food aid, doesn't it?

I can just hear some popular singer praising the program in song as if it were sending manna from heaven to the starving poor.

What a great word!, I must find a way to use that somewhere next time I write some report.
All in All we managed to go way off topic but think we had fun doing it!, Interesting that Sweden and Switzerland always contribute good, intelligent stuff, same when I go to meetings there.
And just to bring us right up to date with Sweden, recently their three AP funds, those are the fund managers for public pensions in Sweden which total about 80 billion euro's, decided that they needed advice regarding SRI, (Socially Responsible Investment), so they made some illegal short cuts in the EU procrement rules (to make sure that the really skilled Advisers were kept out of the bidding) and chose a local firm plus two others to provide this advice, plus of course they will be paying huge fees in the process, but that's ok because it is only Swedish public money, the firms chosen are about the worst you could find in terms of having any skills in SRI, but of course they wanted it to look like they were concerned about where the investments were made but actually it is total Greenwash, this they know very well butit saves them the bother of actually having to show results since none of these companies can prove that they actually do invest in an Ethical way. Complete incompetence!, so if the cost of living in Sweden is getting too high and the people struggle to pay for things, don't worry, these "Advisers" will make about 100 Million in fees to do nothing!.

Well Conrad, if I were a cynical person, I might think that USA based Big Business has decided that controlling the worlds agricultural commodities market was a very good way to control whole Nations, however, with China "buying" Africa, I think that the Chinese have outfoxed (yet again) the Americans.
