Many stories I could go with on this also, but would cause a lot of controversy, but I will say this. My many years as a cowboys wife , I shot, killed, skinned, cleaned, plucked, processed cooked and ate more wild meat and or beef, pork and chicken then I ever bought at the store. I still enjoy wild game if processed and cooked properly.
Thanks for reminding me it's time to send in for my deer tags cause hunting season starts in November. Yes, I hunt and it feeds my family. There would be lean times if it weren't for my trusty 308 and I've taught both my sons to hunt also. It's a choice for some, for others it is a way of life to keep the family fed.
Yes, I do eat animal products. I eat meat. I eat fish and I eat dairy products. I don't eat nearly as much meat as I used to, though, because I'm really losing my taste for it.
Be that as it may, that is not the argument here. I didn't start this thread as an argument about The Vegetarians v. The Meateaters; the argument is whether or not hunting for SPORT is right or wrong. And I believe it's wrong.
And I don't believe that in the vast majority of cases hunters are doing it out of the "kindness of their hearts" because they don't want to see the "poor animals starve." It would seem to me that if population control was such a huge issue, then doe could be tranquilized, then spayed, or the bucks could be neutered. Even if that wasn't feasible, I still think it's B.S. to use the convenient population control "excuse" to kill a beautiful wild animal.
And hanging an animal's head on a wall, as if the big bad hunter has really done something "macho," is absolutely sickening.
We don't NEED to hunt in order to survive. We don't need to go out and kill deer or squirrels or bear or elk or mountain lions; there's a Food Lion on practically every corner.
I think I hear the faint stirrings of "Dueling Banjos" somewhere off in the distance...

While I don't hunt for my own reasons I don't see a problem with hunters controlling the deer population. What I do have a problem with is the governments way of dealing with the deer overpopulation.
