missingLondon: Opinions?
no doubt..there are some who could......but not me....tidy..in body ....tidy in home.when my mum was alive ..you could eat off the floor..it was that clean...i suppose it rubs off...
I tolerated my ex's clutter for 12 years but it was always an issue between us as no matter how tolerant I was the clutter just got worse and it's disrespectful having to pick up socks and chocolate wrappers off the floor, not to mention computer equipment everywhere, wires, gadgets covering every square inch of the floor. I put up with a bag full of mess from a move from 2 years when I couldn't take it any longer in the middle of the living room, and started clearing it there was a scene.
bearillastein: Not at all. The messy person has no concern for the tidy person. Tried it..doesn't work. I'm the neat one ;)
Hm, the "messy" person could say the same.
I´m currently living with someone, who believes six towels are needed in the kitchen, all for various tasks: one for glasses, one for hands, one for plates that have just come out of the dishwasher, one for cutlery, one for... actually, I don´t know. It´s driving me nuts!!! I´m making a huge effort to keep the existing order, but in return I don´t wanna get told off when I get it wrong.
What am I trying to say?? The tidy person is not right by default. Meeting in the middle and finding the right compromise is essential, and both sides have to walk towards the other and make an effort. Then it can work out.

I would consider that a bit obsessive, and even i couldnt put up with that, and i am very tidy,in myself, and my home.

Longer term you might find that the obsessions just get worse and make it unbearable to live with the person. My clutter ex had lots of ocds like this.

Well, and there we are - how do we define clutter, mess, tidiness, cleanliness for ourselves?? What looks tidy, pretty and cosy to one person, may be someone else´s horror.
I like chaos in my own designated space, but that doesn´t automatically make me a messy person.

you are right. What some view as a mess, others dont. Some places have a lived in feeling, some are clinical. When all said and done,a mess is differant to dirty, and people make thier own choices.
invinciblemuse: They can, provided each has their own space to be tidy or to clutter as they wish, and as long as there is an agreement about all shared spaces.
Oh certainly they can....... I had a very good friend for many years... He liked his place messy, at least his Girlfriend said so.... Her place was so tidy ..... so when I visited them, I would not dare to sneeze..... (well, I was allowed to smoke there ... so a little humanity she showed)
But they lived together for more than 25 years....Had each their own places, he had a little house, she had a flat....
Whe she was at his place, she helped him keep in untidy - and when he was at her place, he helped her keep it tidy...
He told me often - that if 2 people their age,she was about 50 ... he some years older, come together and can live in harmony, it'll only work - long term.... If bouth keep their own places..... And sure I cannot agree more... It is at that point, too many make the mistake... Just think about why ????

i'm not surprised it worked if they lived separately. It's the sharing of space that creates conflict.

Its like nobody has ever lived with a teenager.
Yes, you can live in harmony, but the tidiest person does most, or all of the tidying. I exchange that for the messy person doing my accounts, my admin and anything I need done on the computer.
