Stunned primary school children were told in their morning assembly that World War III had broken out. Staff at St Mary's RC, Bacup, Lancashire, came up with the idea to help children understand what it was like to live during wartime and decided to make them believe war had been declared. The terrified youngsters were also told that London - where some of them have relatives - was under bomb attack. They were led to a cellar when an air raid siren sounded and a firework was let off to simulate a bomb. Headteacher Mike Richards announced in the morning assembly but abandoned the project at around 1.30pm after some of the children became upset. He has since apologised for the exercise. He said some of the pupils had since had nightmares. The project began with a radio playback of Neville Chamberlain's 1939 war address.
Mr Richards admitted teachers were 'very upset' that pupils had been left distressed and suffering from nightmares.
One parent said her children, in particular her daughter who is in Year One, were 'terrified'.
Mr Richards explained: 'We were doing World War Two as a topic and we saw advice from schools that basically suggested that we introduced the topic as if it was really happening. We didn't foresee these problems.
'We did a simulated air raid and talked about evacuation, but we said children would probably be evacuated to Bacup as it was safer than Manchester or London.
The children were shown footage of the Blitz and were told that London - where some of them have relatives - was under attack.

Really, all these stories are probably so hyped up by the media, and can you honestly imagine most kids of today being terrified to such an extent with the scenario you posted? Pêrhaps one or two, but I really don´t believe teachers would spring such a thing on their students without any kind of forewarning, and they had been studying WW2 beforehand according to the article.
However, I´ve just remembered the Orson Welles and War of the Worlds scam, so anything is possible I suppose, though most of the hype about that was found to be over dramatised in the end.
When I was in grade school we had to watch the news in class, when President John F. Kennedy was shot and killed. I remember the teacher asking me why I was crying.
These poor children going into panic mode.......worried about parents, siblings, pets, the despair they must have felt.

It's scary that people like this with zero common sense are instructing young minds. This could have been a great exercise for all if the students were let in on the charade.
I can't understand why someone on the staff didn't see this inherent danger coming at them from a mile away. It's negligence, clear and simple; students have to be provided with a safe teaching environment and every teacher knows that.

Well, the teachers stated that they were told to make it look real and they didn't think that such a reaction would occur.
Well... think again!!! This had to be traumatic to the children!!! I know it would have been to me, even as an adult!!!

What in the world are you talking about Jan???
I have no idea!!! Nudity in the classroom in America??? I saw no such thread.
This was in todays news from the link I posted. I was Shocked! This happened in England. It is terrible to even think of, much less comprehend!
I know you would never participate in such a thing in your school. Now you have a heads up. Be alert and refuse to harm the children if this is presented to you.

There are many teachers who should not be let near children let alone have any influence over them.
Kids that age get worried enough about the news, misunderstandings and the usual social BS. They don't need a teacher deciding to do a real life experience of war with them.

It is really hard to believe the entire school staff is that dumb. I wonder if the story has been mis-reported, exagerated in some way.....

Me too. It's such a no brainer that kids would be traumatized without proper preparation that it defies logic.
These days permission is required for the kids to do anything in school from parents and all so surely there would have had to be something such as this in force. Another point is that even if this had been done as we are believing here in order to replicate life for a child during WWII it is missing the essential element that during that period, parents would have talked to their children and reassured them as well as school staff so this sudden freak out over bombing etc is hardly realistic and in no way resembles what real life would have been like.

Well, since this happened in the UK, we need the response of those over there who may know more about it having happened.

What's up over on the other side of the pond?????
Could it happen HERE????
It this where we are headed?
Our children are being indoctrinated???
It is and will continue to be an indoctrination camp as long as the feds are in charge of education here. Education should be controlled at the local level. Get rid of the Dept of Education. Get the Government out of every facet of peoples lives. Back to the original intent of the Constitution.
remember their training the next generation of supposed leaders.

Not sure about on the other side of the pond Not my problem. I just concentrate on our own problems here at home. Fix that then help out our friends and neighbors. That's how America Survived for a long time.
Yes it can and more than likely it will happen here I give it 2-5 years but only time will tell.

I can imagine how you felt during that. When the twin towers were crashed into I was in either grade five or six. They turned on the T.V's in all of the classrooms and made us watch. On top of this they locked down our school so our parents couldnt get to us. They then started telling us that they had been advised to lock us all in a room with no windows in the middle of the school because they believe our area would be bombed or hit with a plane because it has one of the biggest ports in the states. It was very scary and I remember the parents breaking into the school to get their children. It was very tramatising. I dont think I will ever forget what happened that day or the choices the school made.
