RE: Are you Afraid...

That makes a lot more sense than blaming the Japan earthquake and tsunami on some sort of doomsday prophesy. It is all natural disasters and has naught to do with anything else. Hadn't heard about this though...the super moon...

RE: 13 Killed in horrific bus crash in NYC

Agree. It is very likely they will catch the guy and if he is responsible, will pay. imo

The Drawbridge

1. F
2. D
3. C
4. E
5. B
6. A

I think the madman is obviously most responsible. The friend next because she should not have been judgemental and should have helped her friend. Infedility is not a capital crime. The boatman is next because he refused to help save someone's life over a little bit of money. The lover is next because he also should have helped her, but doesn't own her as much loyalty as her friend. She and her husband are least responsible. Tha'ts my opinion.

RE: help training collie pup

There's a lot of different stuff to know and do. I suggest getting a book or video. Find one that looks good at your library, bookstore, online, or Amazon.com. There's a lot of different information. Main point I think is to be firm and consistent but loving, just like you do with children. thumbs up

The Drawbridge

As he left for a visit to his outlying districts, the jealous Baron warned his pretty wife: "Do not leave the castle while I am gone, or I will punish you severly when I return!"

But as the hours passed, the young Baroness grew lonely, and despite her husband's warning, decided to visit her lover who lived in the countryside nearby.

The castle was located on an island in a wide, fast flowing river, with a drawbridge linking the island and the land at the narrowest point in the river.

"Surely my husband will not return before dawn," she thought, and ordered her servants to lower the drawbridge and leave it down until she returned.

After spending several pleasant hours with her lover, the Baroness returned to the drawbridge, only to find it blocked by a madman wildly waving a long and cruel knife.

"Do not attempt to cross this bridge, Baroness, or I will kill you," he raved. Fearing for her live, the Baroness returned to her lover and asked him to help.

"Our relationship is only a romantic one," he said, "I will not help." The Baroness then sought out a boatman on the river, explained her plight to him, and asked him to take her across the river in his boat.

"I will do it, but only if you can pay my fee of five Marks."
"But I have no money with me!" the Baroness protested.

"That is too bad. No money, no ride," the boatman said flatly.
Her fear growing, the Baroness ran crying to the home of a friend, and after again explaining the situation, begged for enough money to pay the boatman his fee.

"If you had not disobeyed your husband, this would not have happened," the friend said. "I will give you no money."

With dawn approaching and her last resource exhausted, the Baroness returned to the bridge in desperation, attempted to cross to the castle and was slain by the madman.

DIRECTIONS: In the story above, there are six characters. They are (in alphabetical order):
A-The Baron
B-The Baroness
C-The Boatman
D-The Friend
E-The Lover
F-The Madman

Using the list above, rank the characters (from 1 to 6) in the order of their responsibility for the death of the Baroness.

There are no right or wrong answers guys! So debate away!

RE: For the Women: Which is the BIGGEST turn-off for you?

an intelligent and arrogant man would be tiresome but what I consider real intelligence is enough intelligence to keep a check on arrogance and to have some humility

RE: The Date that didn't happen!!

From what I've read on the forums, this happens a lot, people met online not showing up for a date, even if you've been talking for a while. It isn't you, OP, it is what happens to people who are doing internet dating. He let you know in advance, while he is still a horrible jerk, often they just don't show up.

RE: Dog spinning

This is 2011. Bulgaria is an EU country. The people doing this are not stupid, uneducated, etc. They have television, computers, the internet. The doctors who practice in Bulgaria are not witch doctors, they are modern medical doctors. There are veterinarians in Bulgaria. It is not the middle of the Amazon jungle. These people know that rabies is not cured by spinning dogs and then dropping them in a lake.

RE: Are there any really honest men out there?

This type of email comes from professional scammers. The writer is not at all how he says he is, may not even be a man, could be anyone. Just a total scam.

interesting story

Unbeknownst to her family, 17-year-old Florence escaped from Brockhall mental institution in Lancashire and fled 200 miles to London in 1954, changing her name to Diane Robert
I think it is amazing that at 17 she escaped from the mental institution and was able to make a life for herself, get married, have a family, etc. and not be discovered for many, many years. It's like a movie.

RE: For the Women: Which is the BIGGEST turn-off for you?

•An overly shy man.
•A self-centered man that is 'full of himself'.
•A man with little experience / intimate relations
•A lazy man.
•A workaholic.
•A mama's boy

The list is incomplete. A man who is not intelligent is also a very big turnoff for me. A man who is self centered and 'full of himself' is equally a turn off. Those are personality characteristics that generally never change. I think if a man wanted to, he could change from being shy, lazy, workaholic and even a mama's boy. My mom married a man who was an only child and his father died when he was young, so he was raised by his mother, just the two of them. To some extent you could say he was a mama's boy because they were very close. But he was a good husband and when he was married, he put his wife and kids first. The combination of a not very intelligent man who is full of him self would be probably the very worst.

RE: Dog spinning

Your arguments dont' even make any sense. There is no logical connection between giving your dog a bath, kenneling it, or taking it to the vet, all things with are done for the benefit of the dog and done within the care of and thoughtful attention of the owner or handler. These things cannot be compared to a group of people who are not concerned about the dog and are not doing something for the dog's benefit stringing up high in the air, spinning it around and then dropping it into a river or lake. People are not making a big hubbub about it, we are simply saying it it animal cruelty. There are many who would say training animals for the circus is not cruel or keeping them locked up in zoos is not cruel. I would say so. It is a matter of opinion. There is no need to sneer at other people's opinions.

interesting story

Yahoo News~

"A missing woman who was presumed dead has been tracked down and reunited with her family 57 years after she mysteriously vanished.

'Dead' British woman found alive after 57 years. Florence McLellan, 74, who is originally from the Cheetham Hill area of Manchester was found alive and well in Islington, London by police detectives following her disappearance in the '50s.

Unbeknownst to her family, 17-year-old Florence escaped from Brockhall mental institution in Lancashire and fled 200 miles to London in 1954, changing her name to Diane Roberts.

She had been sectioned by her parents after giving birth to a son out of wedlock, and was forced to give the baby for adoption.

Her extraordinary discovery was made possible when the missing woman's surviving relatives responded to a media appeal for information after suspecting that a skeleton dug up by builders in a car park in Manchester city centre last year could have been Florence's.

According to Greater Manchester Police, DNA tests ruled her out as the body and were able to crack the case after a year-long missing person's investigation leading them to her astonishing finding in the capital.

Florence, a mother-of-two and a grandmother-of-five told the Manchester Evening News: "I was really worried when I got a phone call from the police because I thought I would be sent back to Brockhall. I'm so relieved I don't have to go back. This has all come as such a shock but it has been a weight off my shoulders."

Son Glyn Roberts, 47, added: "Our worlds have been turned upside down by this. I always thought I was my mum's first born. I feel like I'm just beginning to get to know my mum again. There have been tears and cuddles but she is the victim in all of this."

The Roberts family now want to trace son, Joseph, who was put up for adoption 57-years-ago.

DCI Joanne Rawlinson, who is leading the investigation into the murder, said: "Things like this make the job worthwhile. Out of the sad set of circumstances we are investigating there has been a happy outcome for this family.""

RE: Dog spinning

Trips to the vet and kenneling are for the dog's protection and well being. THERE IS NO COMPARISON, no logical comparison anyway between that and this spinning thing.

The spinning thing fits your definition of cruelty: it is a deliberate act of cruelty which causes pain and distress: IT IS OBVIOUS THE DOG IN THE PICTURE IS IN DISTRESSS. It causes psychological pain and probably physical pain.

It doesn't seem to hurt the dogs? That is a self serving conclusion come to by those who want to do this dog spinning thing.

RE: Dog spinning

There is no comparison between kenneling a dog and doing something like this to it. doh Would you like it to be done to you? Without your permission? For someone else's entertainment? I suspect it is a frightening experience for them. They don't understand it and don't know what is happening to them or what is going to happen.

RE: Dog spinning

Just because kids might like it, doesn't mean dogs do. Also, only a kid who would want this would enjoy it. There are kids who would say no.
