I am with you as well since I live pretty close to where that happened it was very shocking. I just can't immagine this happening in the amish village they are so unworldly with no electricity, no pleasures of what we take pleasure in they live such a simple life...that is what was thought to me to be the safest place in the world...just goes to prove with all the wackos in the world no place is ever completely safe. My thoughts and prayers are with then
My thoughts are with them, ya know, I really was once one of those people who said..that wont happen here...but the reality is...it could..That is very scary.
I know it's new's but if they didn't report it I wounder if it would slow down. This is somthing new in america, the first one I remember is that guy who went up in the tower and started shooting,I think it was in the 70's.
it's scary...i keep my wonderful and precious children away from guns...i control my home, where they go, and know where they are at almost every second...
but when they get to school, it's another world. literally.
i also wonder if things could have been different.
i hate guns. and no, it's NOT just the people behind them. had my little child picked up that hunk of metal...she could easily blow someone away, or herself, and never know the difference.
and tell me it's education all you want...but when you have a special child, they CAN'T just learn such. life is a toy.
Well now that's a very good question. For the gun is merely the tool used to implement the intent. Removing the tool does not remove the intent. However the tool being as effective as it is does facilitate swift and thorough execution of intent. An execution that may not come to fruition if the person of intent had time to diffuse and think. A hell of a lot can happen in the heat of the moment with the right tool ( probably what happened when I hooked up with my ex )
Knives can do about the similar damage almost as quickly, and are much harder to trace back to a criminal. I am not a fan of guns but I dont think that banning them is the solution. There should be much tougher regulation on how they are distributed.
A gun is a weapon. Nothing more, nothing less. It can be used as a hammer, but then so can a 4 inch stilleto heel.
A knife (generally) will have another use, so will sticks, clubs, sickles, and the host of other "violent" objects.
we had an instance of this in the UK, where a guy called Michael Ryan literally shot up a small town called Hungerford in the south of the UK.
Armed with a Kalashnikov rifle and a Beretta pistol, Michael Ryan rampaged through the streets of Hungerford shooting 17 people
He was in a reputable gun club, and was a respected member of the community. No one really knows why he did it. Although he was recently unemployed, he had no history of depression.
He bought his guns off the internet. They were delivered to the Republic of Ireland, and he collected them from there.
Regulating gun purchases will be almost impossible as the advent of the internet will allow cross country purchases to remain unchecked.
Even licensed gun owners are still killing people.
There is no real solution, as banning all guns would be untenable and impractical. You get rid of guns, and something would replace it.
It would be a nice idea, but reality is different. It will be left to this Amish-killer and Michael Ryan to prove that guns are dangerous.
Bullets can be traced back to guns after they are fired. It would make sense to catalog the bullets fired from each gun prior to it being sold. If a bullet that matches that gun is later found you know where to start looking for the bad guy.
I just think there will always be people that do bad things. We just need to step up our ability to track them down.
