This is a serious question about the Afghan situation.

If the USA can put a man on the moon within a few feet of where they wanted to be, in the 60’s, how come they can’t find people hiding in the mountains, using today technology?

If this is not the place to talk about this that is ok ..no problem
cheers

exactly and both nations had up to date tested equipment where the allies started with mostly WW1 vintage equipment.

As an aside, regarding the legendary SMLE .303 (Short Military Lee Enfield) that equipped British in 2 world wars and the korean war, both the round (Cartridge /bullet) and the rifle were outdated and obsolete before WW1. Another example of refusing to re-equip forces in a timely fashion, they were caught short in three majot wars and numerous smaller scale conflicts over that period between 1900 and the 1950s when the SMLE was finally replaced.

Because 9/11 was an inside job! When bin laden was supposed to be doing all the planning for the attack he was actually in a Saudi hospital for his dubieties, he was actually visited in hospital by the US government, when George Bush said this was a war on terrorist he forgot to mention the bankers that are paying for it, the same bankers that made a profit out of WW1 WW2 Vietnam and Korea,

The American government has No money? The banks own it all, at interest?

The Mark 4 was the last issued, but they were not common, at least in the navy There was also the Mark 5 The jungle carbine developed for use in New Guinea. The only SMLEs i saw were mark 3 or mark 3 *. We did not get SLRs until late 66 because all they had went to army. The 1RAR diggers took WW2 owens and Brens to Vietnam, the brens had been rechambered and rebarrelled to take the 7.62 as I recall.

There was also a heavy barrelled SLR, which if not carefully fired on automatic empted the mag. Would be my weapon of choice

The Bren hmm yeah good weapon, not so suited to a Jungle situation id have thought?
I remember 1RTB had SLR's in the late 60's, i used to go out there picking up bits of lead off one of the old rifle ranges, to melt down for sinkers.
When i joined Cadets (1973), i was abit disheartened when i got a Lee enfield compelete with bayonette, i wanted an SLR.

This morning there as been a lot informed information posted in that thread including in part:
the European Union is requesting countries to offer naval back-up in a bid to rescue up to 6,000 Europeans still trapped in Libya, a spokesman for the European Commission said today. Apparently many of which are in eastern Benghazi which is at this point unreachable by air.

The local government has accepted requests for Malta to be used as a transit point for nationals of the UK, Germany, Austria, Brazil, Thailand, Vietnam and, crucially, China, which is understood to have 35,000 workers in Libya.
