Canada shuts embassy in Libya; diplomatic staff evacuated

Diplomats at the United Nationals Security Council clashed Saturday while trying to determine how to proceed against Moammar Gadhafi and his regime in Libya.
The council met to consider sanctions against the strife-torn North African country, but diplomats were at odds over a proposal to refer the deadly crackdown against antigovernment demonstrators in Libya to the International Criminal Court, council envoys said.
Diplomats said there was broad support on the 15-nation council for a draft resolution on sanctions to punish Gadhafi and others in the country's ruling elite for attacks that have killed thousands of civilians.
But council members were divided over whether to refer the issue to the war crimes court. It was unclear whether the call for an immediate court referral would be cut to get unanimous agreement on the draft's other punitive steps.
Meanwhile, the continued unrest in the North African nation led to Canada suspending its diplomatic relations with Libya Saturday and evacuating its entire diplomatic staff from the capital, Tripoli.
A total of 24 Canadian citizens were among the 46 people who flew out of Tripoli early Saturday on a flight that also included 12 British citizens and a three-member Australian diplomatic team.

Bulgaria sends third flight as evacuations from Libya continue

The Bulgarian Government is sending an Airbus A319 to Tripoli to evacuate Bulgarians on February 28 2010, the Foreign Ministry in Sofia said.
The ministry repeated a call to Bulgarians to quit Libya, saying that with the exodus of many foreigners, it was possible that there would be fewer commercial flights out.
Those Bulgarians who wanted to leave on the Government aircraft on February 28 should contact the embassy in Libya and should be at Tripoli airport before 10am, bringing their passports, water and food, the Foreign Ministry said.
Twenty-one Bulgarians arrived in Bucharest on February 27 after being evacuated from Libya on a Romanian military aircraft and three landed in Kyiv on a Ukraine military plane, as 21 Bulgarians made their way by sea aboard the Turkish vessel Iskenderun.
The Bulgarians who landed in Romania would make their way home by various means, by taxi to Rousse and by aircraft to Sofia, Bulgarian National Television said.
The Iskenderun sailed on February 26 at 8am and was expected to arrive at Marmaris on the evening of February 27. From there, the Bulgarians would have to make their way home at their own expense.

Remember Rule no 11 ...I ma here to post what I think right and need not go by your version of what is happening in Libya . You cannot isolate Libia's protests just like that . Libya has been a bone of contention in international politics for long . Qaddafi has gone ahead for even making nuclear weapon .While we talk about Libiya we should also know how Gadaffi manage to cling to the power for long and suffocate his people . There were obvious forces supported him including the US on a later stage. Libyans were made to suffer because of these interests . and Libya represent a typical country in the world which has been played upon by others . even after the Qaddafi is out of power ..then what next for their future ? the new government will be a pawn in the hands of the US lead imperialist and will have a puppet government like in Iraq ..my point is that not just cut pasting from BBC or any other website.and please many who are wetting the CS with crocodile tears.
