I don't have any special expertise on these things but the Middle East almost seems to be in the thralls of a mob mentality.
There appear to be no leaders, no idea what is going to replace the old leader.
It's a mixture of people with secular, religious and economic ideas and I wonder what is going to happen when these forces come head to head each trying to bring their needs to the forefront.
I hope they have learned and come up with a way to co-exist.

I think yemen is a country that has been in trouble for a long time. And I am unsure of what people you are referring to that it will fall into their hands. It seems to be full of bad people and good. And the bad seem to be really bad. This may not make sense to you but it is my worry. dunno

Well Match, somebody is stirring things up. Yemen has been fighting Saudis and rebels have been trying to overthrow the regime... but now it seems the youth have their hand in the pot and are gaining concessions. I believe the top dog has already indicated he will step down and many of his military have defected. Sounds a lot like the Egyptian model.

Everything can happen, there will be fights for power and who knows who is going to win? Many people tend to think that there will be democracy straight away when the old dictators will be overthrown, but how could it be? Opposition is not a homogeneous force, there are all kinds of folks there. Some may want democracy, some not. And they don't have a tradition of democracy, it must be learned if they will chose it. It will not be peaceful there soon.

Not at all. It's a coup in progress but not just any old coup. A three to five way coup with tribal alliances mixed with bribes to Saudi Arabia who may or may not be able to help Saleh retain his throne (or help one of his half brothers take it away) along with some Iranian influence and a military rebellion.

Quite involved to tell the truth but definitely not a simple question of the street rising up. If anything, the street as prompted by one or all of the players showing up for support sessions.

Not so long ago a program on our TV appeared to be discussing alleged Australian Moslems undertaking (so called) terrorist training in camps in Yemen. Think i even heard Bin Ladan could be there.

I agree with you in fact in one of the threads on Egypt Boban was the one who pointed out that something is going on because there was a problem in Indonesia and some small autocratic saudi muslim state too, besides Egypt and Libya...so you never may know..dunno

Well-said and one should not forget what happened in Iran, Shah's bit moderate but autocratic rule was replaced by fundamentalists and now everyone knows the consequences....so let's hope for the best.conversing wine
