It's not so much a question of why as what do we do about it. Unfortunately the current government missed a chance to prove they take suicide seriously when they overlooked Dan Neville for the Mental Health Portfolio. Instead they gave it to someone who writes character references for rapists.

but seriously it is a topic close to my heart so defo no taking the piss here...my mate is coming home from canada in may...with her 3 boys...her husband committed suicide while she was pregnant with her last...4 months ago...but she is doing good..we cant wait to have her home...

In Pedro's defence (I don't say those words very often), this is something that needs to be discussed. I don't just mean on CS but among society as a whole. Still hard to discuss though.

well i have suffered psychosis in the past and now i take noting 4 granted

its gone mad since the recession hit, no job no money and facing a raft of other problems, It would make people feel like there is no light at the end of the tunnel, no future, no hope, When things are that bleak you could nearly understand why people kill themselves, If you think Irelands suicide rate is bad, take a look at Japan, The suicide rate there is enormous, When doing anything the japanese as people put every effort they have into something and if they fail they break down and take it personally, They dont seem to have the ability to seperate themselves from the situation, its like they feel they are the problem when in reality they are far from it

My condolences to her and her children. (and her late husband's family of course)
Suicide is an awful issue to face it really is. However, I would like to see suicide survivors getting as much coverage as those bereaved by it. Yes to be bereaved by suicide is awful, but it is equally awful for people themselves who have ever felt so low that they attempted to end their lives. Sometimes I feel like the only stories we ever hear about this issue are the ones that end in a tragic death, the pain of people who attempoted and survived, is often ignored. JMO.

I was also blown away by the man on TV (Can't think of his name,but he has some involvement with pieta house I think)a few years ago whose son died by suicide a few years ago and who now provides his own service whereby people can ring him when they feel depressed or suicidal. What a man.

Pain often comes from with-in, there are about 150 housing developments half built, this aqaites to a few thousand houses, this has sent hundreds to the bankruptcy court, The one problem here was vandals striping the property's & smashing the windows, Now u have a situation of empty ghost estates worth nothing, the pain comes from with-in the local Irish people, bringing there local area down to a garbage tip, it all makes for a bad place to bring-up kids, & drag-down the realestate prices, then we want to know why people commit suicide, in that situation, I think I'd take the suicide.
The number of the housing might not be correct, but it is close....

Housing?ghost estates?i dont think relates to the suicide crisis too well in ireland..the recession yes...i know of a very sad case locally...but reasons for suicide vary...and probably ones we and their families will never know....
that is why it is so very hard to deal with...No matter how low and lonely you feel you should always remember that there is someone in the world a lot worse off and that now matter how big you think a problem is, it can always be halfed by telling someone.
