Why waste all the time and energy into portraying yourself as something or someone you are not? Not just here on the net, but in person. What does one hope to gain by this? Why is it so hard to just step up as yourself and possibly attract the person who you would actually have a good fit with? Sooooooo frustrating sigh

Never understood it myself.
Kinda' funny, but most of the folks I've worked in living history programs with over the years have developed a "persona" to help them better portray what they're doing. I never have and when asked about it, I explain that whether I'm in Buckskins as a 19th century Mountain man, in boots & jeans as a 21st century truckdriver, or boots, jeans, hat & vest as a Cowboy poet - I'm still ME! The only thing that changes are my speach patterns and my clothing. I reckon I just never have quite figured out how NOT to be me... Maybe I'm just too much me to hide?

I have always been me. Can't be anyone else. Sometimes it draws heat, most of the time it has been appreciated. However cyber space does tempt and allow some to portray themselves as someone they think others would be attracted to. It all comes out in the wash. A futile endeavor to deceive others will only bite you back. Paws

most people want to portray them selfs as being the next best thing or catch. so they act all mature at first using big words and saying little lies thinking no one will ever find out. next thing they know, they are alone and wondering what in the living hell did i do to disurve this. people hope to gain friendship or even somthing more by little white lies. just my take on this matter.

The games that people play are like a loaded gun in a room full of intoxicated people. Someone is going to be hurt. It may be yourself. Paws

I had to hurt someone today as well as hurt myself in the process. Not because of games, but because I chose to look the other way to avoid bursting the balloon. But in the end I was forced to face reality. A lesson learned, painful ? Very. But life is a constant state of learning and writing exams. Some we pass, some we fail. But with matters of the heart and soul we will remain in school. Paws

I've had people tell me to quit writing poetically and just be myself.

But writing poetically is being myself!

What a bunch of buffoons! doh

I'm crazy too, so don't ask me to start acting "normal" either. tongue

Perhaps CS is my peering into a world with "real" people.

In this strange land called Orange County, California, for my ad, I've contemplated taking pictures with cars at the local Porsche dealer, getting a pic in front of a multi-million dollar home, and complaining that my wallet is so thick it gives me back problems.

Nah, it's easier to just be me. Of course, that could explain why I am still single here... dunno

By the way, it is actually raining here this evening. The local news treated this as the apocalypse is near. I'm like, "people, it's just RAIN."
