When newly starting out a relationship...how much is too much to tell?..and what would you want to know up front??

I have always been an up front open person, there is no question really that i will not answer, however the genre of questions will be my deciding factor as to whether or not i'll be speaking to that person in the future...because it shows me what was most important to them at the time....
I don't have anything to hide, however i don't feel the need to "spill my guts" on the very first meeting...unless the opportunity presents itself and my answering or not answering will make a difference...

Are men and women afraid of hearing the truth???

I'm open and honest too. If the conversation is flowing and I feel good with that person I dont "hide" things. Like you I don't spill my guts but I will answer honestly. Really, I don't see the reason to wait. We are all here for the same reason so when you meet somebody in person it is to see whether there is chemistry and a connection.
I prefer to hear the truth right away myself. But yea some people might be overwhelmed by the truth.

I think that when you first start dating someone to enjoy getting to know one another first. It should be fun and enjoyable. Once you get to know one another and are sure how serious the relationship goes then I think its okay to talk deeply about things in your past and life etc..I think it would all depend on how one is comfortable with one another and what we think is acceptable to talk about. We shouldn't have to spill everything at once.

I agree that we don't have to spill everything at once. But there are maybe certain things going on in somebodys life which might be a deciding factor for the other party. That might right away be an "Oh No" ......

Why wait till you all comfertable with each other and then tell. And you don't have to start spilling right away but if it comes up in the conversation. I'm one who appreciate honesty.

I don't have any sort of code to stick by. I just let junk flow. I'm not a huge hey let's tell life stories sort of gurl. I'd rather talk about pertinent current events or passions ect... and just let my life's story fall into place in bits and pieces as it will over the course of the friendship or relationship...

I like this Angela...because though you may not have wanted to divulge some personals as yet...the opportunity presents itself and then if you don't use it...it almost seems as if you have something to hide or were "ashamed" of what you had to say...

It is far harder to bring up something at a later date when the opening to discuss it had already presented itself...JMOdunno

This has always been my biggest stumbling block. How much is too much? I'm an open, honest person and I feel that sometimes I overwhelm people with what I divulge. On the other hand.. like Wikked states, what if I chose not to tell something and find out later that that comes back to bite me in the assets?
Its a fine line sometimes. But I always believe that honesty and discretion should go hand in hand in these situations. Tell as much as you're comfy telling and save some so they don't walk away thinking they know everything there is to know about you.
