Science has been able to proove many things over time, like the earth still being flat oops round, the non existence of monsters, evolution, gravity etc. But Science has never proven there is no God and I sincerly doubt it ever will attempt to. People can accept science easier as it is fact based but many would be fearful of disclaiming God just in case.

Having read your post,whether you are trying to or not,you are actually insulting those who believe,within thier religion,there was a god.
There are millions of believers,who create no problems to others,and go about thier business,not affecting anyone else.To use the example of people using religion to brainwash others or cause wars is a very blinkered view.Yes,there are those that do,but they are the minority,and if religion didnt exist,they would find another cause.
I would suggest the majority of people were taught about religion at some stage in thier schooling,but that doesnt mean they have grown up to believe in what they were told.Maybe you should give some credit to people being able to think for themselves,bearing i mind many have gone out into the wide world and made a success of thier lives.
Legalised brainwashing? well,some could say,on reading your post,you are paranoid,believing someone is trying to brainwash you.People are not as foolish as you are suggesting,and if they were,everyone would be running around like headless chickens,which of course they are not.Most dont even think about the things you are suggesting and getting on with thier lives.
A crutch? Well,what is wrong with a person,on thier death bed getting relief in thier final moments from thier beliefs? Does it harm you,or me?
Finally,for your imformation,i am a non believer,but i dont critisis those that hold thier beliefs.

Its more that we believe the phenomenon is at least similar in each of us.
It cannot be proved, or disproved, at least at the present time, but I agree that, given my concept of imagination, an imaginary friend has some level of reality for the individual.
Its more the consequent behaviours that should be in question, not the basic cognition.
There's no reason, as I see it, that science and concepts of evolution can't co-exist with the concept of imaginary friends.
I think the problem comes when people don't allow themselves, or their imaginary friends to evolve and grow up when presented with new information.
It smacks of fear of losing belief in their imaginary friend.
It may lead to destructive behaviours.

Most people with this kind of friends are called Schizophrenics - - they usually have more then one friend and god speaks to them

For those who do not know what CREATINISM is - - - - It is the religious belief that humanity, life, the Earth, and the universe are the creation of a supernatural being.
In effect it claims that the world is 8000 – 10000 years old, that we were made by god, ( Adam and Eve ) - - - - that dinosaur fossils and all the other scientific evidence, and proof of evolution - - - is just the Devil testing our faith . . . they disregard all, and any science, and they say that science has an agenda cos it “changes it's mind quite often” - - - Even thou it proved beyond dispute, for example, the shape of the Earth ( For those who still don't know it is not FLAT ) Basically changing it's mind AFTER it god new evidence, that disregarded old knowledge of it.
Personally I believe that any person who actually believes in this Creationism, should have it's head examined - - - Jet movements - - especially in the states are promoting the idea of teaching Creationism in schools instead of evolution and science. Trying to turn the time back in to dark ages, making people stupid. Last such attempt was in Luisiana - - Luckily it was deterred for the time being ( I live in Europe, and have nothing to do with the states, but still it shows, that if people are so STUPID, to believe this Creationism, and that they are actually able to try, and pass the law, to make future generations stupid as well . . generations that will go out in to the world, and commit atrocities In the name of god, and their beliefs - - - the same way they did in middle ages ( Crusades, Inquisition . . . ectr. )). That simple fact makes me believe they should be stopped in their attempts of legalised brainwashing ( There is already enough of that as it is ).
