Tulefel: Try to grow something more frost-resistant, like penguins. Wat? An egg a year from a pair… well, but they support themselves on their own. The only thing you’d have to do is to follow them from and to the sea and chase occasional polar bears away from them. You’re going to be incredibly rich (and famous) within a half of a millennium. (Shall I get a pro cent or two for such a bright business idea?)

As to swimming… It’s really very refreshing and deliberating, as sauna but in a slightly different way. If you learn to swim, you’ll never regret it.

Penguins wouldn't like it here, no ocean or sea near by, but we do have plenty of snow year round.laugh

I thought it had only snowed up north, but apparently we got some on the outskirts of the city as well the other night. uh oh Yet people wonder why I keep a parka, gloves, long underwear and a touque in my vehicle year round.laugh

I'll have to wait until I go to Ireland or somewhere else warm and sunny to learn how to swim, even our indoor pools are frozen for most of the year here. snowman

No, I don’t wonder why you keep all those things in your car – of course, it’s to make yourself unrecognizable for polar bears. It may also be useful to have skies, a sled and a dozen of huskies on the backseat: when temperatures drop below freezing point for gaz, you can always switch to mechanical power. grin

But seriously, is there any meaning in agricultural activity at your latitude? You plough and sow and plant, and then everything is destroyed by frost within few minutes. Sounds like too expensive onions.

As to swimming… once upon a time you were swimming inside your mother’s body for months. You just have to remember how to do.

The first sunny day for last 3 weeks, and I went to the sea. But at this place “sunny” doesn’t mean warm: the wind was strong and steady, (there were white “lambs” on the waves, must be around force-three). Ok if you are lying tightly on a towel, but still better under it. grin

Then clouds came and conditions turned from refreshing to plain and simple cold. The few people, that were there, put on their clothes and, indeed wisely, departed. But I’ve decided that live’s here and now, and went into water. boogie

The swimming season continuing!!!

Yea, it’s a good exercise to keep one fit. Almost as good as swimming and rowing.

It's cold in Aussie Land, Tule, though we do have some gorgeous sunny days despite it being the winter season.

But it's so frustrating knowing it's summer in Europe. I so wanted to be in Italy before the cold sets in. That will be 3 cold seasons in one year, otherwise.doh

Glad you're enjoying all that swimming. How wonderful!cheering

Didn’t know it can be cold in Australia… or in Italy, for that matter. But how cold is your ”cold”? Ours is snow doesn’t melt and you have to have on very warm clothes: it’s windy in Gothenburg and humid, and all this makes the whole to feel even colder.

But not yet! cheering The last Wednesday I’ve been to the sea, have swam 3 times a 20 min each during 4 hours (there was a queue to get into the water laugh ), not a single cloud in the sky – a real summer. Though had to endure an air raid when returning home.uh oh A couple of neighbour seagulls got a nest somewhere on the roof, and the kids hatched, two of them. They were strolling near the entre door, and the parents dove on the passersby with a terrible scream. A day after I took some pictures of the chickens (the entre door was ajar), but am afraid to go out with garbage. I do understand that the birds in a desperate situation, but what I’m supposed to do? Store garbage until autumn? laugh

Ah, so much people don't know about Australia. Information is as close as google though, so there is no excuse.laugh

Aussie Land is a large continent, with huge variations in temperature, with Darwin having only 2 seasons, wet and dry, where in latter the temps drop to about 23C.roll eyes

Where I live in Adelaide, winter temps can dip right down to about 2C in the middle of the night, otehrwise the coldest in the daytime might be 11C, with an average tem of about 14C. Summers can be in the high 40'sC, the other year for 2 weeks straight!!

We have magpies that do that. They get insanely protective about their young and they literally will swoop down and attack anyone within a 50m radius walking by!!...What to do?? Wear a suit of armour, or start sqawking like a seagull, then you might have half a chance!!laugh

Oh, I’m accused of ignorance… I, who’s read 3 books about Australia! laugh “Dirt music” by Tim Winton (liked it a lot), “Eucalyptus” by don’t remember who, but it made me very interested in the subject. I even try to grow them myself (right now I’m in the second attempt – Oh, my Citriodora! Oh, my Macrocarpa! – the first one didn’t survive my move to Gothenburg, it was end of a November and (Scandinavian) cold). And for a long time ago something about singing in blackthorn, or some such.

In fact, I’ve googled “What’s cold for Venere” and got no relevant answer. Will try again later. By the way, +14C may be an average for Swedish summer.tongue

Last updating on threat-from-the-air situation: 2 neighbours venture out under umbrellas; one couple, who has dogs and must walk them regularly, carries tennis racks; the other day the mailman has dumped the pack with mail near to the door and crying “Take your darn mail yourselves!” disappeared behind the horizon. Now our seagulls own a bundle of newspaper and letters. We are cut off from the world. uh oh

Not accusing you of ignorance, Tule. Not you of all people...it's just that you said you didn't know it was cold in Australia which made me think you might not know much detail. One thing you might know, but is still worth mentioning for others, is that even though at certain times of the year it is stifling hot in the Red CEntre, one of the huge desert regions, at night temps can reach below zero!!

So the mail man has had a nervous breakdown?? Too much mail to deliver, poor thing!! It might be a plot to force you to use a computer and send emails...ah, Mr Gates, he is too devious!!laugh

A man from Moscow phones to his pal in Siberia:

- I’ve heard you’ve got very cold weather at your place.
- Well, let’s see… no, it’s ok, only minus 20C.
- But they said: minus 65C…
- Ah, you mean outdoors!

I’ve checked your place, and Wiki says the average for July is +15.3C as highest and +7.5C as lowest. Comparing to Gothenburg in January: +1C and –4C. Comparing to Yakutsk (had an acquaintance there): –36.1C and –48.8C. Everything is relative. bouquet

Talking about the air…I dared to go out, the siege is broken! At least for today. The small cuties are three now. Took some pictures.

Where I live is a High altitude city and it gets warm in the spring-summer months but at night the temperature drops. What could be interesting is the variation from the daily highest and the lowest temperature, which is what, could make people to feel if the weather is cold or hot or fine.

Once a friend of mine form NZ came to visit and she asked about the climate: does it rain in February? I said no, never. To my great surprise, It rained most of the days she was in Mexico luckily she did not listen to me and she had with her a rain coat and those days the temperature was cooler and she was surprised.

She could not go to the Monarch’s butterflies sanctuary (Michoacán) because a tragedy had happens there with the mountain mud (because of the unusual rains) burying a whole town.

On the topic, here the rain season has started!!!

Meteorology is a precise science – the drum is to be hold in the LEFT hand!professor

And to tell the truth, rain season is never properly over here – haven’t had a week without rain yet.

We are getting more rain although not enough for the farmers to seed their crops under rain fed but that is rather the norm.

Have a great weekend!

Repeat it as many times as you can.

Where I live is a high altitude semi desert place so the only way to go swimming is going to some public pools and I just prefer not to.

There are however near by (80 km) some thermal waters but the roads are quite unsafe that direction and I just do not want to be driving with some risk of crime involved.

Hopefully, I am going for short trip next weekend with several friends to an amazing place in another state with lots of water around and I hope to do some swimming.

Although, I am not a good swimmer but I do enjoy it a lot.
I could live in the water.

Very sad when people don’t feel safe when travel in their own country… sad flower I’ve read somewhere a couple of years ago that kidnapping is a usual business in Mexico. During the nineties crime, especially violent, level in Russia was very high, but I never felt insecure, not to that degree to be afraid to go to such a place as sea shore. Perhaps there were places that one avoided, can’t remember now, but not places frequented by general public. sigh

Unfortunately, kidnapping is still happening everywhere in Mexico.
We have to avoid:
Some roads,
Traveling late at night or very early,
Using expensive vehicles (mine is a modest one), etc…

When we travel by land, I try not to do it alone and avoid carrying bank’s cards but I can not live my life with fear yet I have to take precautions.

So, I am going swimming this weekend!
