laugh Gosh, back then, if you got drunk, the car knew its own way home... grin

But seriously tho, I really didn't drink, but my husband certainly did. We lived in Darwin and for that short time, I can remember him coming home from ' footy practice' and I honestly dont know how he could drive, so I am assuming the car had an inbuilt GP back then... laugh

Merriweather: I dont miss the typewriter, Jeez Whiz but pounding on those old things really hurt the fingertips,

but miss the ashtray that used to sit besides it...

I do miss the "less stress" and more fun that life afforded, everything was taken lightly, hours at work were less, and employment was easy.

I miss Janis Joplin... her raunchy voice..

I miss John Lennon & George Harrison, among many others..

I miss that life that maybe we could have had, if technology had not moved so quickly...

I feel like too much has changed in too short time, and if I compare the way our life has moved, it doesn'tseem to synch with the way nature goes slowly ...

I hope I am making sense...

you are making TOTAL sense!! teddybear

whowhatwherewhen: Woo hoo! We sure did Curly. This is a cool thread that has brought back lots of memories. Dancing to the "Bustop" Getting into nightclubs at 16.Didnt need much money coz some bloke would always buy you a drink. Getting booted out by the bouncer. Running for cover when the cops arrived, then going back the next night to do it all over again.

People today will never experience what we did and it was a lot safer out there partying on. People enjoyed themselves drunk and all very few fights happened I use to work behind the bar in Bondi so saw a lot when I was sober ( which wasn't a lot lol) mainly people having a great rage, don't think I would feel safe working behind the bar these days.

Shell225: well I had a moment today where I told Short ... back in my day we didnt loose our rulers and protractors every 5 minutes.. these things lasted for years

miss being able to sleep in till noon because you'd been out the night before.

I remember I had my older sisters P license and used it as ID when I was 16 going to clubs. Best night was after having been a regular for 2 years at the New York Hotel, they were when I celebrated my 18th there.

I remember my girlfriend and I putting all our small change 1c 2c & 5c coins in a moneybox, and going out one night, shaking it all onto the bar and asking for their bottle of cheapest wine

Good one Shell, wave

My brother and his mates wanted a car ... so they each put in $6 and got one for $50. It was unregistered and had no plates, so the dodgy biker dude that sold it to them, ripped the plates off another car, and stuck them on... doh

The car was so slow, that some dudes wanted to have a fight after a party, and decided that they would park at the down side of a hill and wait for my brother and his mates to come past. Sadly the fight dudes had to wait so long for the little car to get up the hill, that they got bored and left. The boys only heard about it weeks later.

astoneinariver: well said, sure we had the fights ,but they wer good punchups, bit of fist bit of boot, but no syringes knives glassing.it was a decade of love all right

Hi Astoneinariver, wave

Yes, back then I believe, the measure of a bloke being a bloke was his ability to have a good punch up... a bit of a fisty cuff stuff... especially if it was all over a lady...
rolling on the floor laughing

It made a bloke be a bloke, and it satisfied that urge of men being natural providers, lovers, stalkers and usually the fight ended with both parties being best friends.

I know you cannot do this stuff now, but from what I remember, blokes who had a bit of a flurry usually ended up as good mates..
There did not seem to be the hatred that occurs now..???

sigh

yeah how the world has changed today you'd be in lock up in court and a hefty fine. It's all about the money today revenue. They don't seem to catch the fast reckless drunk drivers until damage is done. Last Saturday night out the front of my home across the road a young very drunk driver did a burn out and went through fence and landed in neigbours driveway lucky he hit a tree before he went though the fence otherwise could have went though their house and hit them. scary. The neigbours had to call the cops.
