You don't know? Wow. The Grateful Dead was a band. The lead singer died years ago. They had a huge following of Hippies who drove everywhere they played and camped in the parking lots. People would go to the show and the hippies would all be selling things in the lot. I used to buy and sell jewelry there when they came to Chicago. I made stained glass peace sign necklaces. Everybody there was all dressed up in totally weird fashions like floor length calico hand made hippie dresses with blue jeans underneath. There were girls with hairy legs, babies dressed in body paint and jingle bells, guys playing drums all over the place and the smell of barbecue and incense filled the air. Now, the surviving members still tour and there are lots of Grateful Dead cover bands who have some success. It was not just a band. It was a lifestyle and mindset.

I can't believe this! They momentarily flashed a vender with a rack of necklaces that were groovy crystals stuck in fimo clay. I bought one of those!!! I still have it. I also have a fimo mushroom, a fimo gnome clutching a stone and a hammered silver bracelet. Some chick sells those on the net for 100.00. I bought mine for 30 in the parking lt at a dead show.

Oh yeah. There were thousands and thousands of these hippies, so I figure that there must be at least a few on CS. then, the Rainbow Gathering is like the parking lot scene of The Dead with no big concert. They meet in forest preserves at scheduled times and places. I think they sound good except for the fact that rangers allegedly HATE them. Hippies are supposed to be all about ecology and not about trashing campgrounds. But other than that they sound awesome.

Gnarly. I was born in 71. I wish my parents would have taken us. They were too square. But they were hippies. Mega hippies.

They just devoted their lives to gardening and books instead of music. They played a lot of Pete Seeger and The Beatles, The Doors. The Stones, Ravi Shankar, Frank Zappa, etc, at home.

peace

I always liked this one. I thought it was about a Wild West gunslinger.

This is a little movie of the Rainbow Gathering. I have never been to a Rainbow Gathering but it looks like fun. Where elas can a lady who dresses like a Fraggle get some respect? Hehe.

I saw the Dead in concert 3 times back in the late 60s and early 70s. Twice in Texas and once in Colorado.

I much preferred the group that they often toured with, The New Riders of the Purple Sage.

That sounded good. But I have to be honest. It sounded exactly like the Grateful Dead music of the 90s to me. But I liked their 90s music a lot. It was hard to believe the amazing sounds they made. wine
