By the way he threw down the irish flag that was presented to him and with his father waving the english one, I would think he has made up his own mind! very bad form in my opinion, simply handing on or refusing to take it would have been a better idea?

yes he played superbly and a well deserved win though!

Did he throw it on the ground? That is bad form all right. Still though the eejit who handed a tricolour to a known unionist is worse.

I have been saying it for the last 2 years, Rory McIlroy is a sewer rat! People i play golf with were at the West of Ireland a few years back in Rosses Point, Sligo. Rory hit a ball out of bounds on the 18th and when he got back to his car he smashed his car up with his driver, and his father had just bought him the car! Spoilt sewer rat, never liked him and never will. And people will just have to face the fact he is British and that us Irish dont want him.. Shane Lowry we love you.. wine

purplesmurf: No he's not British....that is a distinct island. He only fefers to himself as being Northern Irish....even mentioned in interviews that it was amazing that such a small country had won the last 2 US Opens....

but its not the same country is it?
Hes British not Irish, its like how Irish people claim George best as 1 of their own, dont make me laugh he was from a blackhole

biggles90000: I think HC is right when your born within the six counties your classed as a british subject and is given a british passport straight away but dont hold me on this.

not the case if your born in Northern Ireland you can choose a British passport or Irish passport, the fact that someone would choose a British passport would make me think that they class themselves as British not Irish

Read down through this article He thinks of himself as British not Irish

Wasnt really worried as to whether he considered himself Irish or not...it is his choice of course. His father was not holding the union jack but the st Georges cross flag of england. So he must consider himself english not Irish, be it northern or otherwise!

I was commenting on the way he handled the situation... and if it was true that he spurned the irish press, he must feel very strongly about his citizenship. It seemed rude and childish to have reacted in the way he did to me.dunno

Are you sure it was the St. Georges cross flag and not the Red hand of Ulster? they are very similar.
