I have found the way people treat me in this service role varies immensely. Some, actually most, treat me with courtesy and mutual respect. There is a small minority, however, that seem to be of the opinion that anyone in a service role is of a lower social rank to them and that gives them the right to treat them condescendingly and rudely.
I am an intelligent, well-travelled and well educated lady who has worked in law and office management for many years. However, since taking this position for a while I have found that some guests will treat you appallingly.
What they forget is that although they are paying guests, service staff "service" them; deal with their problems, help them out etc. If they treat me like crap, they will not get the best from me either!
I believe that everyone should be treated with respect, irrespective of job. I have found this period to be a further eye-opener into human nature and how rude we can be when we think we can get away with it.
Ever experienced anything similar?
