I've said this before on the International forum and although many people concurred, I also received a mountain of disgruntled replies and accusations of pettiness.
So, once again, here it is, bad spelling and grammar! I understand English is not the native language of many members so I do make allowances and I realise there are people with problems such as dyslexia, but for those whose native language is English, please try a little harder.
I also understand that we often reply and post very quickly, so it is very easy to make mistakes, I do too at times, but it really does annoy me. More so in the profiles because people have time to think about what they write here so surely a little effort is not difficult. I have also received emails from men whose native language is English, which I have not been able to make head nor tail of! Surely if you are interested in someone enough to send an email you would want to make a good first impression!
In my defence, I am an English teacher, so please don't slate me for my rant.
hehe i totally agree, first impressions are so important and i think that all women would only be interested in a person who at least matches their level of intelligence, so if good spelling for u is a priority then people who do not spell so well will obviously score very low on ur 'wants and needs' list!
something else that disses me off is when people do not include photos in their profiles, i delete their emails and flowers at once without even bothering to check out what they have written. if u have a computer then u must have a photo of urself and even if u dont u should take the initiative to obtain one.. the fact that u don't want to show others what u look like is a complete turn off to me.. it's already quite frustrating trying to get to know people online, not knowing what they look like does not help at all!
im english and im the first to admit that at times my spelling is nonot the best and jan is so right we native writers and speakers should lead by example my only is excuse is i try to be quick and my laptop is no very good anymore but i for one will try to improve
You're English is just fine wedward, take my word for it.. I'm an English teacher..
If you really want to improve, i do have a suggestion though.. i noticed u do not use punctuation, and u write long sentences without inserting any commas or fullstops. Try including these and i promise you ur grammar would have improved a lot..

are you discuraging the last few people in participating the EU-Forum ?? Its boring enough with 3 - 4 people as it is .. So who you mean of the few participants ?? This is not a school examn either, for many of us - if only worried to write perfectly all the time in English, the effort would be so much that we would loose spontanity.. I wonder as this was a nice way to encourage people to participate in the Forum.. The emails you receive in your mailbox you can screen for whatever your personal likings are, but in coming over as judge of good English or American Language on an International Meeting Site might come to others a bit selfimposing or arrogant. just a thought !?!
im sorry i dont judge anyone never have never will i try very while im on the forums to participate and to encourage people to take part it good fun is it not

I'm flattered that you think I have the power to discourage people from posting just because I started this thread! Seriously though, I did expect comments like yours, I'm just surprised there weren't more.
I have never been accused of being arrogant before and I can assure you I'm far from it, quite the opposite actually! We all have our pet hates, and the thread was intended to be an opportunity for ALL members to vent a little, not a Q & A session on the correct use of English.
Whilst I agree with Jan, if the Grammar and punctuation are correct it is easier for all to undrstand. But I have 2 problems, I have just started Spanish lessons (so get confused) and the E on my keyboard is inoprative. But I will try my best.

You are flattered for the wrong thing then
Or did I too write in such bad english that my suggestion was to be understood as accusing ??
Saying "that it might come over as a arrogant" to people when english is not first language.. "
I know you like the perfection, with the points in the right place, so please dont missinterpret what I was suggesting. As you are in Spain and write in Spanish perhaps as perfectl as English, still you could be aware of difficulty for others to express themselfs in a foreign language ...
pensando solo en ellos tambien .. entiendes amiga ?
I am tired of conflict. Some people seem to intentionally try to upset another. Or something said in jest...is taken seriously. If this continues, I won't be posting anything but goodbye.
Yes, I went into the international forum briefly about a week ago and got into it quite hot and heavy with this English dude. He was attacking the United States. And then he was hurling insults at me. I think I finally won the debate (?) because he apologized. I think taking debate in catholic high school might have helped. :) There is nothing wrong with a difference of opinion. We are all individuals. But one can antagonize another with "words." It could be the wording for those who may just be learning English. I do wonder though if we get more sensitive as we get older. I just want everyone to love one another.
Then please PLEASE!!!! for your own sake, check your profile. I looked at it time and again. I never completed reading it, becase everytime my eyes get sore. As it is now, your lines dont paint a picture of a caring man. I for one, when reading it, think "well, if he doesnt take time to write a structured sentence, with full stops and commas, correct spelling etc about himself, can or does he care for others?"

I don't believe yuor profile indicates that you are an uncaring man or that it is untruthful, but it is difficult to read without proper punctuation and stuctures.
It's the same as when somebody adds too many smileys etc, it really does put a strain on they eyes, and to prove my point....
