I was out with the hound today just outside work on the nearby Trans Pennine Trail which is a cycle track crossing the country from Southport on the west coast to Hull on the east coast. Two cyclist stopped me and asked if they were on the right track to Buxton in the Peak District. I explained they were heading in the wrong direction and described the right route. One of them looked like he was kitted out for a long journey so I asked him what was his final destination.
To my complete surprise he said New Zealand...
He added that he was stopping off in Munich to watch Manchester City play in the Champions League and then continuing on his journey down under. I bid him good luck and farewell, he surprisingly took my photo and headed off to the east.
You just have to admire people with that amount of spirit and sense of adventure.
great cycle tracks in NZ and lots of people come over to do cycling holidays ... pity you couldn't have given them my address ... could drum up a bit of cash doing B&B

I don't think many of them cycle over from the uk though.
bodleing: Some do, most airlines allow cycles on them. All they require is that you deflate the tyres and turn the handlebars sideways.
never knew that .. bit like when you pack them in the container to move overseas .. but you'd have to have a cert and wash the thing to import it I suppose. The gov in NZ has a project to build cycleways throughout the country .. clean green image and all that .. plus get some people into jobs.

And signs that say, "Watch out for snake crossings". Every snake in Austrailia and New Zealand are poisonous, and one species can keep up with, or outrun a human.

FYI there are NO snakes in New Zealand ... there have been sea snakes but no snakes on the land

Hi Ah Bodleing,
Nice to hear that you are off and about touring on your bike. I guess it would have been a surprise to have someone say that he intended riding so far... but Yes, Its good to have a spirit of adventure.

On a slight scale... yesterday it was... " Look Grammy, no trailer wheels from my granddaughter...lol
