Albertaghost: Stay safe!

I'm trying. Expecting it here in about 3 hours.

Raining hard now with average winds but lots of water filling the street and probably the basement cause the ground was already water logged.

Can't relax to watch tv or read a book and can't even find anything interesting on CS.

What's a girl to do....sigh

Thanks for your good wishes.

Listening to Geraldo in NYC right now. Sounds pretty serious. He says worst storm since 1800 and something. Supposed to hit NYC at five am.

Yep...when it hits New York it will get me too cause I'm very close to the big city.

If you care to, Google "hurricaine 1938" and you'll see what it did to Long Island....

Aei yi yi!

""The New England Hurricane of 1938 (or Great New England Hurricane or Yankee Clipper or Long Island Express or simply The Great Hurricane of 1938) was the first major hurricane to strike New England since 1869. The storm formed near the coast of Africa in September of the 1938 Atlantic hurricane season, becoming a Category 5 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Scale before making landfall as a Category 3 hurricane on Long Island on September 21. The hurricane was estimated to have killed between 682 and 800 people, damaged or destroyed over 57,000 homes, and caused property losses estimated at US$306 million ($ 41.1 billion in 2011). Even as late as 1951, damaged trees and buildings were still seen in the affected areas. To date it remains the most powerful, costliest and deadliest hurricane in New England history.""

I have spent the day glued to cnn. My daughter lives in Maryland...Last I spoke to her about an hour and a half ago..things were not too bad...but it was just the edge of the hurricane at that time....there is a good chance that a dam in Maryland is going to overflow because of the amount of rain....I don't know how close it is to where she lives...But now I can't sleep....Die Irene Die!!!!!!

I read about this earlier today. It nearly destroyed Long Island Makes what we're going through look like a sprinkle of rain. This hurricaine is being very typical. It rains then it slows down and the wind picks up while the rain shows down then the rain and wind get strong. This will go on until the early morning hours when the eye hits hard.

Thanks to everyone who has sent good wishes...Big hug for ya...hug

Irene isn't going to die until late Sunday afternoon when it moves out of this area and goes north. At that time it will slow down to a tropical storm. I can't sleep either. I watch tv for a couple minutes, then get up and look out the window then walk to another room, then back to tv. doh It's the anticipation knowing it's going to get worse.

wave Hi Nik....So many times a snowstorm or hurricaine gets all this breaking news coverage and then it turns out that it's not so bad after all. That's what we're hoping for but the weatherman says, it's going to be a category 1 until it leaves New York. Also want to thank you for your get well wishes in the thread about my surgery.bouquet
