Bodecia: I believe when they checked out this morning, they paid by check.
But we have discussed it here, and decided that the next time we allow teams like this into the resort we get the responsible adult's (coach's) full contact details so that we can ask him to check the rooms prior to check out to ensure nothing is badly wrong.
hi B: i'm a high school teacher, and we really prep out students before we take them anywhere, and part of that includes responsibility if there is any damage. parents are also notified in advance of conduct requirements and consequences. consequently, we have received a lot of positive feedback from places we have taken our students. over night trips, including team sports are a privilege and not a right. our school receives a lot of thank you's from the places we have taken the students. we are routinely invited back.
it sounds like it's too late now, but in the future, as well as having the attending adults check the rooms for you:
photo document the damage and mess, and also document the extra time needed to clean it up. include your invoice for the extra cost to cleanup and non rental of the rooms. then send that to the school, with cc to the school board and you can be sure it won't happen again. the coach will be disciplined, and you will be reimbursed for your costs. hope this helps.

My personal opinion. The coach..or coaches should be fired, and the students expelled. The Students parents should be responsible for the damages, not the school. When I was a kid, if we acted like that on school trips, the teacher in charge would call the parents and have them come pick up there kids immediately, and they did it.

hi jeeps...(grin) the school will initially pay for it. and then internally, the school will call in the parents and have the parents reimburse the school. sometimes it can become an issue to 'prove' which students caused the damage. so let the school deal with that part. i wasn't there, but in my wee opinion...stuff can happen to any teacher taking students somewhere. but that doesn't remove responsibility from the attending teachers, and they will be dealt with by the school and school board. things haven't changed that much from when we were in school in that this is totally unacceptable behavior. i also know that the school principal would want to know as it reflects poorly on the school.

langleygirl: Pictures should have been taken to document the rooms, and then extra clean up charges charged to their charge card. As well, whatever group(school) they came from should be notified so that the parents can deal with their kids.
It's not even questionable if they should be accountable. If they, not their parents, had to pay for the damage by serving time doing community projects, washing police cars, sweeping sidewalks, emptying trash bins at the mall they might think twice about letting themselves get carried away.
But here's the thing. I would bet that one of their role models is Charlie Sheen. Remember when Charlie Sheen trashed an expensive hotel room? Remember when Charlie Sheen had many out of body experiences on tv. And do you remember when he literally trashed his co-workers on Two and A Half Men, the co-workers who were part of his becoming a millionaire. These kids don't just do these things. They have role models either in the media, hollywod, sports figures or their parents.
I am a firm believer that molding your child starts at home around the age four years old.

montecito: I don't condone beating or hitting children. There are ways to discipline children without laying a hand on them. You are an angel Jeeps to the ladies on CS and I for one luv you for your kindness and respectful ways that you talk to people..
Awwww.....
I know there are way to discipline without beatings or hitting. I'm not even going to bring up the word religion here. But some teach the word... And some parents believe.

Quite. Scary..
You are now unblocked. I have been busy here the last hour or so.
Bodecia: This is not really a Single Parent issue, but its the nearest catergory I could find.
Just clocked on for work, and heard about the craziness caused by a bunch of youngsters that were here for a hockey game. From what I could see last night, they were around the ages of 15-17. All boys.
Apparently, and dont shoot the messenger, they caused mayhem last night and early this morning in the resort; loud noise, crashing around over grassy areas, and leaving garbage all over outside their rooms. The housekeeping staff also report the worst mess they have ever seen in rooms, and the coach's room was one of the worst. The term "Dogs" was mentioned.
So, my question is this: do you think that younger people these days should be held more accountable for their actions? I completely understand that these kids were here for a good time and a great game, but from what I understand the rooms were trashed. The poor housekeepers were run ragged today cleaning up after them.
Do you think kids should be taught more responsibility, or left to run riot?
They should have to pay in cash or community service. I never would have done that at 15.

Most definately, and all this should start in the home. The riots of late in London were a classic example of kids out of control, with little or no parental guidance.
As for the "sporting teenagers" I would kick the School team to the kerb and not allow them back on the circuit again.Name and shame.
They got away with murder. The coach needed backup. But it's too late for that. I think, those kids should have not been allowed to leave. Then all of them do community service - clean up the mess they had done. That would have showed them something. Also punished by being able to go to school. Have a parent supervise them - not watching tv, or using the computer. Also, they should be grounded to stay home and not hang out with their friends. Also no allowance and have some of their money given back to cover their bill. I think that would sink into their heads.

Yeppers..they were little brats, even though their parents should have taught them better.

Definately, BB.
What the heck were kids doing running around the streets of London in the early hours of the morning, anyway?

I think the riots of late in London are a classic example of generation warfare. All the more power to the younger generation for speaking up. Their futures don't look good.... unless they work twice as hard for half as much income. Power to the people!

Most of them don't even attend school, let alone seek employment,so no excuse I'm afraid.
Whatever their prospects they had no right to put other peoples lives at risk.
