Well, if you were a student of Byzantine history, you would know that many Greek academics do not consider the Byzantine empire 'Roman' in character after Heraklios (610-641AD).

If you can't see the correlation between the argument raging on this thread re: german reparations to Greece, I suggest you give it a little more thought.

War indemnity?

What about returning what other countries have taken with not moral from your very own country?

Spaniards took so much wealth from many countries including Mexico
–for about 300 years-

Spaniards took millions of native Mexican’s lives trough killing them and for the diseases that they brought to Mexico; they are accountable for about 20 million souls.

Spaniards took from Mexico. lots of precious metals like gold, silver and many other commodities.

The worst?
Spaniards Friars burnt so many legacies from native cultures like the books from the Maya, Huastec, etc….

How will ever Spaniards repay or compensate for that crime???

hmmm

allow me to have my own opinion ,esp ab byzantium.till the moment crusaders invaded instabul around 1204 AD , if i am correct the official language of the state was latin and they wrote the laws in greek too ,cause most of the population spoke greek as their first or second language.have a look at the emperors names, most of them roman, like joulian, justin, justinian,so dont need to be academic to see the truth.
all is connecting east roman empire with greece is the religion and that they occupied greek territories for almost 1000 years.
ab turks they won romans and captured instabul ,cant ask from a winner war indemnity ,take them back if u can and u must.thanks for ur commenthandshake

The official language was koine Greek after Heraklios and Latin fell into disuse. The names you mention are all late Roman and not part of the mediaeval Byzantine Empire. Just read Ostrogorsky and you will learn.

I don't care about indemnities for Constaninopolis, it was the use of irony that is all.

Please continue with your anti-American diatribe.

Heavy reparations, for first time in history i think, paid by the Germans to the victors during WW1 and this result in a famine and mass immigration of Germans.-If you declare war in a country, and in the end, you have been defeated, you pay reparations, thats what the internationl law dictates, especially if you have committed atrocities, you pay reparations to the victims families.-

But using a CIVIL war showed the weakness of your argument, you also aimed it at the USA and I for one proved that as it was a CIVIL war the country would be suing itself.....

So by using Vietnam your point was shown to be wrong....

And in any case the way the "Marshall" plan was used after WWII shows your indemnity idea as way of line...

The thread was designed to attack the USA but it failed as the action in Vietnam was basically a CIVIL WAR.....Then the thread got highjacked and morphed into this nonsense....grin cheers

my what???anti what???can u explaine to me my byzantinist(sic) ,how come american troops found themselves fighting in a strange land 10000 miles + away from their home and for what?????australians may had some interest on the political matters of south asia ,but USA???? no way. at least in iraq they went just for the oil and for the lute. yes its true i hate pax americana ,but i am not anti american , just see their crimes clearly.
about byzantioum , i have my own sources and my lovely brain to trust and my love for my country.the hellenistic period started with alexander the great and ended with cleopatra's death.after this christians ruled and we saw their achievements. jehovah bless them all lol

Did the Germans conquer and stay or pillage for 4 years and go??? You are missing the point.Obviously you cannmot see the point, what was then with the conquers and what is now with an international law accepted by all countries.
