Hunter_of_Food: As i said I'm against hunting for pure trophy sport. It's wrong period. Hunting for food is good for the environment and also helps cut down on the grocery bill at the checkout.

Just think. I took 2 deer this past hunting season. I got about 100 lbs of venison. That's a 100 lbs of beef I don't have to spend on at around $3.00 a lb. It cost me all of 3 bucks for the 100 lbs of venison. That's the cost of the ammunition I used. 2 shots 2 deer. I processed my own meat so saved the $75 it cost to take to a processor.

As I said just now - our posts crossed - ok, you are hunting legally (I would suppose) and fair enough, in this day and age with meat extremely expensive, and if you can kill an animal humanely for food for your consumption - then ok. It's the hunting for sport I have a problem with.

A PS my the previous post.
In a SHTF situation, you have guns but your sandal-wearing social-liberal neighbours do not, but they do have food.
Bit of a no brainer, really. banana

silentspring: It is sad so few take part of this thread, as it is an electric one, at least for many women.

I know for sure I am not the only female saying I would never date someone who on purpose and for food are able to go out with a rifle or gun to shoot an animal.

Really, a subject to add to the profile text.

You are correct you are not.

Carl96190: You can live off what is in the forest, if you know what to look for.
I assume that the Native Americans would have done that for thousands of years, as well as spearing the occasional buffalo.
The army taught me how to live of what we call here 'bush tucker', for situations in which supply from the rear is disrupted. Shooting game is not an option, because 'Charlie' will hear the shot. Everything has to be very quiet.
The best source of resupply in a dire situation is always from the slain bodies of your enemy.
Sometimes, it might be the bodies themselves . . . with a nice chianti.

That's funny.

As to the first part.
Yep I would venture to say the same. I spent many years in the military also. So I understand but in the here and now the supply lines are just fine. I choose to bypass it some but not entirely. I don't have to worry about Charlie or Achmed either. I know the plants that are edible in my region and do harvest them some. Also grow a decent garden each spring and reap the rewards of that endeavor also.

Hi Crystal - hope you're ok.

Maybe it's a UK versus USA thing in that here in the UK the so-called sport of hunting is traditionally one of the 'upper classes.' Whereas in the US it is more common to possess a weapon.

Hi Wow...Im good ta....I dislike anything to do with guns to be honest...I work at Glasgow airport and since the attack on us a few years back, the policemen who look after our security now visibly carry weapons....even that took me a long time to get my head around and even though I knew it was necessary it still made me feel uncomfortable....but the thought of taking a gun and hunting and killing beautiful animals sickens me to the stomach.

Yes,I agree, it's barbaric. I suppose this thread has run its course because the whole subject is something I feel so strongly about. People seem to think that "it's ok, they are just dumb animals" but of course killing for sport is horrible. For food - fair enough if one is hungry and the kill is on target so as not to cause an animal suffering.

Do ya eat beef, chicken, pork? What's the difference? they are killed for our enjoyment by someone. i just prefer my meat a bit more natural without all the hormones and antibiotics in it.

Perhaps it's perfectly fine to house "domesticated animals" in cages and small fee lots crammed in together, until they unwillingly get led up the chute, in distress, hearing what's going on, before they are themselves either bled out or nailed in the head with a blunt instrument.

I see it's ok to steal your neighbour's food at gunpoint too, even humourous.

If people only knew the full story behind how their food eventually ends up on their plate, they would might not see hunting as a bad option.

It's far more humane to hunt for food than many realise, and healthier.

cheers

What people who are against hunting for sport have against it is it is done for sport - for fun, for a laugh. There is nothing funny about killing.

We understand your stance and have no problem with it. I re read the op and no where in that post does it say for sport. SO when you can confirm it's just for the rack then get back at us.

Find the words for sport please. cheers
