rifles and guns are a bit too loud for my taste, and its forbidden to have a weapon with a silencer ( in my country) Besides I don`t see the point in walking around the woods when I can buy the meat in the supermarket...

that's what a good Hunter does! Stumbling around in the Woods all day, then go to the Butcher and buy the Venison!

kidatheart: Geeze, you're really reaching with this, looking for things to be offended over, dragging up threads from several months ago.
Haven't you anything better to do with your time than be continually pissed off about something?
I am not continually pissed off about something. In fact I am rather an optimistic type. You ought to see me when I really have a gripe about a subject!!! Hunting is a nasty sport - and if you don't agree then of course that is your choice, but don't knock me for my views. You can argue with me about hunting for sport but not about my viewing hunting as barbaric and unnecessary.

Hunter_of_Food: Guess you'd be disgusted of me then. See I'm an avid hunter and well Yep it'd be nice to have a companion that likes the same things I do. I don't do it for sport I do it for food. After all it is considered a sport.
I gathered your nickname would indicate that.
Hunting for Americans is a whole different ball-game than here in the UK.
I came onto this section of the forums hoping to start an Olympic 2012 thread but came across this one so the Olympics is on the back-burner for a while.

Never understood this, never will I think,
unless you are willing to explain the excitement of killing an animal. What is the true pay off? Apart from the meat and perhaps the fur?

Hunter_of_Food: Honestly I think most are not reading between the lines so to speak. Yes there are the trophy sport hunters and then there are the majority that do it for food.
As with you. I don't approve of hunting just for the antler's on the wall trophy.
It is legal in my state to hunt big game with a shotgun, rifle, Bow, crossbow, muzzle loader, and handgun. Depending on the intended animal. For shotgun and deer it must be a solid slug. You cannot use a pelleted shot. For Turkey you cannot use a rifle of any kind nor muzzle loader.
Attacking this poster with your evil cause you hunt without knowing and ASSUMING that she does it for sport is wrong. If you don't like it then you know the saying stay out.
A person simply has to read the opening post of this thread to see it is done for sport and for meeting guys.
Whatever floats her boat but you can't tell people to not argue against hunting as a sport (this is in the Sports Section), as of course there are many against the so-called 'sport' of hunting.
Of course it would be nice if the OP came on here to explain why she finds killing innocent animals for sport so appealing (apart from meeting cute guys), but I suppose she has killed two birds with one stone as it were.

Yeah but come on; you dug up an almost 3 month old thread. So it was your choice to ignore or do as you did. I just responded to yall's post.

I'm guessing unneccessary drama and whining is an acceptable "sport" to some.

It wasn't far down the list on this board to dig-up. As I said I came here to start a new thread and the title of this rather stood out. Hunting for so-called sport which is easily the point of this thread is something I am against, and others too, and likewise other are pro-hunting. I am all for a debate but of course it seems that some are not for a debate. If there is a statement I disagree with I will state my point. Likewise if there is a statement I agree with, I will do the same.
Start a topic on the UK practice of fox-hunting with a bunch of UK 'Hooray Henrys' and a anti-fox hunting brigade and this thread would seem like a tea-party believe me!
Hunter_of_Food: I would venture to say you stated the true payoff.
It is sad so few take part of this thread, as it is an electric one, at least for many women.
I know for sure I am not the only female saying I would never date someone who on purpose and for food are able to go out with a rifle or gun to shoot an animal.

Really, a subject to add to the profile text.
Well here is something to remember.
When the chit hit's the fan and the grocery stores are no longer providing food. Your gonna have to go to someone. I for one know that i can rely on myself to feed myself and won't have to be asking others for food.

As i said I'm against hunting for pure trophy sport. It's wrong period. Hunting for food is good for the environment and also helps cut down on the grocery bill at the checkout.
Just think. I took 2 deer this past hunting season. I got about 100 lbs of venison. That's a 100 lbs of beef I don't have to spend on at around $3.00 a lb. It cost me all of 3 bucks for the 100 lbs of venison. That's the cost of the ammunition I used. 2 shots 2 deer. I processed my own meat so saved the $75 it cost to take to a processor.

Fair enough, in that situation where the shops have run out of food and you have to rely totally on the land - ok. What I am against is hunting for sport and being as we say "gung-ho" about the whole so-called sport of hunting. If I ever run out totally of food - (and I have about a couple of years worth at the moment of food at home which I keep topping-up) - I would do what I had to do, but for sport - hunting is a no-no.

You can live off what is in the forest, if you know what to look for. I assume that the Native Americans would have done that for thousands of years, as well as spearing the occasional buffalo. The army taught me how to live of what we call here 'bush tucker', for situations in which supply from the rear is disrupted. Shooting game is not an option, because 'Charlie' will hear the shot. Everything has to be very quiet. The best source of resupply in a dire situation is always from the slain bodies of your enemy. Sometimes, it might be the bodies themselves . . . with a nice chianti.
