My first grandson is due to be born soon. His mom has "placents previa". Moderate. She was diagnosed upon confirmation of her pregnancy. She has had to have ultra sound after ultra sound. She just had another the other day. They now want to do another one in a week. They say to see if it has moved yet. It hasn't moved in the past seven a half months. But, they say it has just barely moved and they need to do another one to make sure whether she can have it normally or not. My (our worry) is this. If it is that close to not being safe. Should they just go ahead and go with the Cesarian? They don't want to go that route but, the chances of deadly harm coming to her and our baby is large enough to worry about chanceing it. My son says that he would much rather have her and their child with the risks of cesarian, as to worry about the risks of natural birth. She feels like she is farther along than they say. She may be right. In that case they can't really afford to take a chance of her going into labor. And also can't wait too long to have the c-section. There are different levels of this previa, and she apparently hasn't gotten any better, so to speak. I told them that they were the parents and it ultimately was their decision. But, we are worried. I had a c-section, and healing wasn't so bad. But, I had a problem from the anesthsia. It didn't work. I felt them cutting me and they had to put me out. I, of course did not tell them about that. I didn't want to scare her. I'm afraid of her having a natural birth and also afraid for her to have the c-section. Input?
personally i would want them to do a scheduled c-sections.. its much safer both for her and the baby with the condition she has.. but that is just me..
all mine were born by c-section.. i recovered fine and had no problem with the anesthsia
awwww, so sweet. A N D.................. how did I let that slip by me? I am a prayer advocate! Stupid how that happens, isn't it? Thank you sweetie. Kat
i'm sorry to hear that. is she being steroid shots to help the baby's lungs to mature? if so i'd go with the c-section, would say it's safer to the baby.. but of course then the doctor's would know best, make sure u are told about all the advantages and disadvantages of both natural childbirth and c-sections as regarding ur daughter-in-law's's particular case.. many placenta previa cases differ slightly, i would go with what the doctors advise, ultimately, they know best.
I know that they are relatively safe, but she wants to have their second child naturally. These Dr.'s where they are at will not let her have a natural birth after she has had a c-section. Thank you. Kat
I am leaving for work right now and will come back on when I return. Thanks in advance to you all.
I'm so sorry you are having to go through this. After what I have experienced with medical "professionals"...If it were me, I would just flat out tell my doc that I want to schedule a c-section asap. Like today!
It sounds as if she is far enough along that the baby would not be at risk. I just don't trust the medical profession anymore. It is their decision, but ya'll need to listen to your gut instinct...there was a thread on this the other day.
I will be praying for you, your son, daughter-in-law and your grandbaby.
I'm not sure why doctors prefer natural child birth over C-section but I went through the same thing and that was 25 years ago. Apparently not much has changed.
My son was 3 weeks premature because of placenta previa. The whole delivery was abnormal. At one point, as they watched the fetal monitor, I heard the doctor say "one more like that and we're going upstairs". Later explained to me that the placenta was trying to deliver first and causing stress on my son's heart. He was born 20 mins. later with a bit of assistance but all turned out fine.
I was in no position to argue and just had to put my trust in my doctor.
Many years later my doctor told me he aged 10 yrs. that day ... thank god I didn't know that then.

You know, the best thing is that science has advanced since you had your children. I know a few women who've had c-sections and then gone on to have natural births. Sometimes there's "shopping around" for doctors that has to happen My thoughts are with you & your family- the only thing you can do now is be there for them...
