Juneau: Helloooooooooooooo!!

Sorry ... have only just read your reply! Am not on here too much nowadays, but am still definitley on, so please keep leaving your lovely wildlife posts. I am ALWAYS interested!!

If you pardon the pun...I am just flying by just now, but will be back very soon. Just saw this video of one of my favourite bird families and thought of CS's Wildlife Bit! Crows are renowned for sledging down snow-covered roofs, but I have never seen one on a sledge!! Crowboarding!!

Hey great, a crow snow boarding - brilliant !

I'd made a large amount of bird cake for today and as we had a sharp frost this morning, the birds were queuing as usual on the fence and wall from early on waiting for me to put the cake out grin

So here's my results for 29th January, taken between 9am and 10am for the RSPB Birdwatch :

Robins 2

Blackbirds 9

Magpies 4

Starlings 16

Doves 7

Bluetits 3

Sparrow 3

bestbefore: I'm moving to Scotland

Yeeeeeaaah! Come on up...the weather's barmy.......

and so am I!!! crazy crazy crazy crazy laugh

You got tons of birdies anyway! I just went a bit over the top with the food! Also, I decided to dedicate the whole of the middle of the day to birdwatching! I was watching for 3 hours in total, and just picked out the best hour, which was 1-2pm. I have learnt to do that from previous years, of watching for an hour and hardly getting any birds...so I just started over, with another hour to see if it changed....and it did! It is still only recorded over a 1-hour period though.

Typical though...got up this morning and there were 6 goldfinches, 5 siskins and tons of other birds!! roll eyes laugh

By the way, on the RSPB website, they want to know your address, but you don't have to give them any other details if you don't want...just your results.

I keep trying to post a photo from my collection of pictures I have saved from Google searches (just nice ones that I like) I clicked on properties and then 'open with' and then 'Internet Explorer', and then copied and pasted the address that was showing in the address bar, plus put the
Embedded image from another site
at the beginning and end..... but it hasn't come out blues

This is a picture thread, so I can't understand what I am doing wrong dunno confused

Any advice would be welcome teddybear

Took lots of photos of the birds feeding in the garden today so will post them on when I find out how to! roll eyes laugh

There were actually loads more than on the day of the Big Garden Birdwatch! Typical! doh laugh My back garden is completely in the shade throughout the winter, but now there is a little bit of sun creeping back in...it is so cheery and just illuminates everything! I had actually taken a few photos of the birds feeding during the Birdwatch, but it was so dull that the light levels were hopeless.

Need to win the lottery so I can get myself a decent camera crazy crazy crazy

laugh thankyou - he was just a 'test' really, to see if I could post a photo, but I do love that picture. Was brought up on the Haddiscoe marshes and was surrounded by cattle, so I have a soft spot for them purple heart laugh wave teddybear

PS. Did you ever manage to get to a park to do the Big Garden Birdwatch?

Winter Bird Food ---How to make bird feeding balls

Makes 12 balls each about 100g

Melt 250gs of vegetable lard in a pan.

Mix together 200gs each of course wheatmeal, seeds and chopped sultanas.

Keep about 5 tablespoons of this mixture to one side.

Pour the fat mixture over the remaining mixture and leave to cool.

Once the fat begins to solidify squash palmfuls into round balls.

Cut even lengths of string and thread through the ball with a blunt instrument making a knot at one end.Spread the remaining mixture over the balls and hang them from trees or bird table.

I have put them in a feeder and the odd one or two on the ground for the robins, blackbirds etc.

Enjoy---- the birds certainly will in this cold weather.
