bodleing: We are all products of our own history. The present is being read through the lens of that history, so it's difficult to be exclusively in the the moment, because this moment is viewed through the the lens of that history.
Jung wrote, "Parents should always be conscious of the fact that they themselves are the principal cause of neurosis in their children. Children are so deeply involved in the psychological attitude of their parents that it is no wonder that most of the nervous disturbances in childhood can be traced back to a disturbed psychic atmosphere in the home."
Complexes are generally rooted in childhood experiences, childhood wounding can cause personality traits, subconscious behaviour such as projections well into adulthood...in fact if not dealt with, will stay with the individual for life.

I agree gorgoeus.Sometimes people look to deep,i.e,a persons childhood,and its not always the case.

Sorry but I have to disagree with you.
We are all responsible for ourselves as adults,and blaming ones upbringing for any bad habits acquired later in life is, in my opinion, an excuse.
My childhood was not spectacular but I grew up to be a responsible and loving person.
The same can be said in reverse. What of the person who is raised in a stable and loving family home, but turns into a monster from hell as an adult.Who do you blame for their behaviour.
Taking responsibility in life is part of the process of growing up.Some do some don't,we are all different and nobody is perfect.

Of course to blame ALL our actions on childhood experiences would be wrong, but we cannot escape the fact that our very early experiences have a most noticeable effect on how we go on to deal with adulthood, particularly with our intimate relationships.

Yes and no. Carl Jung is indominatable however not definitive. Our past experiences of course have impact on shaping our pyches...but I also feel that it is only part of the whole, not the entirety. For some our childhhod experiences spur us on to be better people. It provides the lessons and boundaries in how NOT to behave.

Free will is a requisite of the self, but in reality the self is unknowable, you can never fully know the self any more than a swimmer can fully know the ocean.
Although we believe we know ourselves fully, there is n fact, no greater folly in such a hubristic claim....
