So there you are in your seat on an airplane. All of a sudden the flight attendant is asking you for money so the pilot can pay for gasoline to fly you to your destination. doh

What irks me is that if they didn't have the money, they were told to get off the plane to get it. Most people travel with credit cards, not cash. But as you saw at the end of the video, it happened again so I'm wondering if these pilots are pocketing the money.

Someone is definitely pocketing money somewhere. The whole thing is just plain wrong on many levels.

Hi Monte,

It's sad to read but turns out the travel agent parent company, Astonbury Ltd, has ceased trading, resulting in the airline not being paid.. you can read more on the bbc link below, but the good news is it informs passengers will be refunded by the Civil Avaition Authority here.. applause

Hi Yash....The whole thing is bizzare. If it was me they owed money, I'll believe it when it's in my hands. wave

Great thread!

THIS IS YOUR CAPTAIN SPEAKING

It pays to shop around for airline tickets. Don’t take the first airline deal offered, even if it is a major airline. Also, check the safety record of any airline before flying.

thumbs up monte!

Nowadays, the easiest and safest way to fly is by private jet...nice and comfy! However, to charter a private jet starts at $35,000.

It's the same old story, even with airlines...money talks and corruption walks.

Well, as far as the point of the thread, it must have been a horrible experience for these people to have paid for their ticket and then to be told they have to cough up the money for fuel so they can get home.frustrated

I remember reading that Monte and recall that a spokesperson for the airline said they only book flights that have been paid for; obviously, the flight was not paid for...

If they where stoped in Vienna then call the vienna police and swear out a warrent for extortion . All they have to do is impound the plane ( worth millions ) and I'll bet they quickly come up with the cash for fuel . Then the airline can fight it out with the travel company . I wonder if it would take long before that is setteled also . . . confused

But I think the travel company is the one who is at fault. Supposedly the passengers are going to get their money back but it wouldn't surprise me if the travel company goes into hiding since this isn't the first time they did this.hole
