Thought this might be of interest to all those job seekers, and this snippett is over a year old.

M a e r s k
The Emma Maersk, part of a Danish shipping line. What a ship....no wonder 'Made in China ' is displacing North American made goods big time. This monster transports goods across the Pacific in just 5 days!! This is one of three ships presently in service, with another two ships commissioned to be completed in 2012.

These ships were commissioned by Wal-Mart to get all their
goods and stuff from China ... They hold an incredible 15,000
containers and have a 207 foot deck beam!! The full crew is just
13 people on a ship longer than a US Aircraft Carrier (which has a
crew of 5,000. With its 207' beam it is too big to fit through the
Panama or Suez Canals ...

It is strictly Transpacific. Cruise speed: 31 knots..

The goods arrive 4 days before the typical container ship (18-20
knots) on a China-to-California run. 91% of Wal-Mart products are
made in China.
So this behemoth is hugely competitive even
when carrying perishable goods.

The ship was built in five sections. The sections floated
together and then welded. The command bridge is higher than a 10-story building and has 11 cargo crane rigs that can operate simultaneously unloading the entire ship in less than two hours.
Additional info:

Country of origin - Denmark
Length - 1,302 ft
Width - 207 ft
Net cargo - 123,200 tons
Engine - 14 cylinders in-line diesel engine (110,000 BHP)
Cruise Speed - 31 knots

Cargo capacity - 15,000 TEU (1 TEU = 20 cubic feet)
Crew - 13 people !
First Trip - Sept. 08, 2006
Construction cost - US $145,000,000+

Silicone painting applied to the ship bottom reduces water
resistance and saves 317,000 gallons of diesel per year.

A recent documentary in late March, 2010 on the History
Channel noted that all of these containers are shipped back to China , EMPTY. Yep, that's right..
We send nothing back on these ships.
What does that tell you
about the current financial state of this country?
So folks, just keep on buying those imported goods (mostly gadgets) until you run out
of money. Then you may wonder what the cause of unemployment
(maybe even your job) in the U.S.. and Canada and even in Australia might be????

Enough said!!!

This is just 1 of 10,000 reasons that manufacturing outside of China is virtually doomed. There is no way a western country can compete with China. Just have a look at this and ask yourself how much something like this would cost if it were made by Craftsman or god forbid Snap-On. Yes it's low quality, the ratchet is crappy but it works. How does any company compete with an entire country with a billion little drones willing to work 12 hours a day for the equivalent of about 2 bucks? Add to that, China is a country which flexes it's economic muscle by manipulating its currency for the purpose of driving every other countrys businesses onto the rocks.

Oh yes, you're quite right. The indigenous red squirrel is much like the indigenous people, somewhat extinct in the UK, hence the name. :)

I was in toy store today looking for presents for my nephews. All made in China! In the end I decided not to by anything but rather bring them to theatre as a Christmas gift. What is the use of all these toys and gadgets, they play few days with them and then they are forgotten and just litter the space. We should really think what we need before buying, and may be we don't need most of these things.

Not quite enough said yet.

What's been left out is that those ships will soon no longer be coming to California for unloading at all. Instead there is a massive port being created at Lazaro Cardenas Mexico where the ships will be unloaded by Mexican workers and the containers shipped into the US and Canada by Mexican truckers.
More cost effective y'know.
That's what NAFTA and the I35 Super-Corridor are all about. As much as possible American labor is being replaced by cheaper foreign labor to more effectively drain every last drop of value out of the American economy.

Oops.

Minor correction.
That map was the rail map associated with cutting US workers out of the transport loop.

This map is the one involving the NAFTA super-highway and Mexican truckers.

I bought my first set of these about 10 years ago. They really were crap I think they were made out of pot metal, many of the sockets split under load. The last set I bought seems to be made out of much better steel and the sockets hold up pretty well.
This all started after World War 2 when American manufacturers went to Japan to use the dirt cheap abundant labor. I guess the Chinese said hey we can do that, we already own all these people anyway.

Thanks for the update.handshake

Someone sent me an email with photos of these giants of the sea,but I was more interested in the content. Not much different in the UK regards cheap labour as ours come from Eastern Europe.

Having said that if the Brits don't want the "dirty" jobs then you cannot blame others for choosing to come here and work.

As for the Chinese,it started with Chinese restaurants in the 60's but now their shops are all over the place, and most doing good trade.

Hi Ginhug

At my age I have plenty of "figments of my imagination"rolling on the floor laughing

As for the World economy it's pretty obvious who is at the top of their game. I can see an almighty class between China and USA looming on the horizon.Hope it's not in my lifetime selfish as it sounds.sigh

Have a fabulous Christmas and b----r the expense only don't by Chinese goods.laugh
