If you have a link with more info, please for it. I was under impression that is not just "line up" but that we (The Solar system )are entering that dense area of Milky way Galaxy , the very middle section ,plain of the Galaxy. Along with that in this link (one of many ) is more about what to expect

Actually, they counted to the end of the Baktun (a measurement of time in the ancient Azteca world) At that point they endured the Spanish conquest which basically wiped out thier culture. Had they survived, they would have continued to count. But to put it into proper perspective let me relate what my Mexican friends have to say on this matter...Stupid dumba** gringos!!
