I would say the ego-boost analysis is an accurate one! What's more, there's actually not that many people on this site. Not in the Limerick / Clare area anyway! Slim pickings and all that. Be thankful you are in a city with a large enough population. At least you have some kind of chance!

Personally, yes, women do 'date' here, I've met some nice people in a 'no stress', "lets just meet up" kinda way after getting to know them well and becoming comfortable with them and made some good friends from it.
Take your time, dont rush things, be yourself, get to know someone that really interests you and see how things go.
