I am finding it very difficult communicating with people who although speak English well ,especially if it is not their first language. Some of the things that are said, for example, when trying to be humorous get misunderstood. Also cultures and customs are very different. Does anyone else have this problem and has anyone had a successful relationship with someone from another country? If so I would love to hear about it and how you overcame the problems.
Communicating with a third language IS tricky sometimes, because you're both influenced by your own language, with its rules and laws, as well as habitual use of both mother language and second languages.
I've been there and done that - I lived in another country with a language with a different structure than both English and Norwegian, all I can really say is listen better, take your intuition and imagination with you and put them at 110% capacity
Of course. I like to be humorous, but I refrain since my humor may be whether no understandable or even worse, misunderstood. It’s not just a language matter, the cultural factor plays an important role too. Eu podria entender te melhor se nos falamos nossas propias linguas, ne?
