Harrisburg is the capital of Pennsylvania. This is where Rick Santorum hails from. You remember him, the Senator/presidential hopeful from PA who took tons of money from the federal government through earmarks. Apparently none of it went to help Harrisburg deal with their piles of garbage.
In MY state, Virginia, we don't burn garbage, we recycle it, ALL OF IT! Steel cans get melted down to make I-beams for construction. Aluminum cans get turned into light weight car parts, airplanes and wheels for automobiles. Paper and cardboard is reprocessed into new paper and boxes. The list goes on. In fact my state takes garbage by the tractor trailer load from other states like New York, New Jersey and yes Pennsylvania. They pay us plenty to take it. Oh BTW, we sell the steel cans back to Pittsburg Pennsylvania as steel scrap that goes into frames for the auto industry. DUH! The out of state garbage that can't be recycled, we put in a sealed landfill and as it rots it generates gas which we use to heat our homes and cook our food. Jesus I hope these geniuses from NY, NJ, and PA never wake up.
