As human's we have the ability to think and rationalize. Our own intelligence affords us look for a reason or explanation whenever something happens, in our life, for which there is no logical explanation. Therefore, spiritualism and or religion become a very useful tool for us. They are as old as mankind and will always be debatable.
True science starts with basic facts and then systematically build upon them, testing each new addition to make sure it is sound before building upon it.
As for the spirit world, we know it through experiences and then we formulate hypotheses on the basis of that experience, guessing about their nature.
That's how we come up with myths and legends and religions.
In every society, regardless of their historical roots, there is always someone to play the role of witch-doctor. Someone who claims to have secret knowledge linking the world of facts to the hidden spirit world.
There is often a power struggle between the political leaders and the shamans for control of the people. Other times they may be hand in hand, sharing power.
If we are to learn any truth about the spirit world we should look within our own minds first, rather than to trust what we are told by supposed "experts", be they from the government, the religion, or from the scientific community.
Belief systems constitute a back-door to our personal hard-drives. And there are those who want to reprogram us according to their personal agenda.
Nessa7: Oh may thank you for answering in such detail ..... I really appreciate it .... I do believe the journey is way beyond us ...... Where should one start if they are thinking of making this journey ... Do people have to change their lives completely you think ? ..... Like me for instance I can't give my material stuff away and go live on the mountains ... I have an 8yr old daughter ... I want to be more spiritual but I feel I kinda stop somewhere ... And I have no idea how to continue ....
Hi Nessa!! I am currently translating an amazing book (from Spanish to English) that could guide you and answer your questions.
I have to hand it in about mid-october and then it will get "revised" and published. It´s about to get published in Spanish.
Hopefully will still be on CS when it´s published and will let you know.
And very much "on target" with contents of book I´m translating AND my own personal work! (which was amazing when I got contacted to be asked to do the work)
Nessa7: Thank you Gleneagle .... But I thinking of our guides that are said to be at our side ...
I understand where you coming from ... I was born into a Hindu home .. My parents weren't very religious though ... But in my 20's I decided on my own to find out more about Hinduism .... Then I got married to a Christian guy who had a staunch Christian family .... And they practically bible bashed me into Christianity ... But my marriage only lasted a few years ... And when I got divorced I didn't want to stay a Christian as I didn't know much.. And I didn't want to go back to Hinduism as I hadn't learnt everything .. Then my dad died soon after and it left me very depressed ... And someone told me to read the book "journey of the souls" and it gave me a different view on life an spirituality ..... Spirituality doesn't always mean religion .....
Is Love real? Are emotions real? Can they be scientifically explained?
The answer to the first two questions would be a resounding Yes. The answer to the latter is NO. I guess that explains it all.
Most scientists believe that rather than Ghost/Spirit, there may be energy, so to speak the energy of a previous human. I studied Native American beliefs and history for many years and was very surprised to find the word energy being used to describe spirits. For example many tribal/ Aboriginal peoples were Animist, they also believed in Spirit/Energy. A good example is when receiving a gift from an Animist, He/She would say this gift has many spirits, Some believe this to be JU-JU or Good Medicine . However Shaman often describe it as the energy/Spirit of the maker/s, of the giver and possibly of the givers family, where the object is a Family treasure. Recently those who claim to be Ghost/Spirit busters have begun to claim now, that they cleanse energy. Mainly I would guess because energy cane be both seen and measured by Science. In Asia, where some believe in Ghosts, you will also find the word Chi, or QI is often used, both mean energy or essence ...
Sorry to go on, but to be honest I also find it a great subject.
gleneagle: No I don't because there is no verifiable proof or evidence of such. I did believe until I was no longer under the influence of my parents or the Church. I now believe that the definitive truth of reality is to be found in the works of Darwin, Einstein and Hawkins. This is an ongoing quest for me.
Einstein talked about "The Mystery",, He said that the greatest thing we can perceive is The Mystery, the true source of all art and science, and that those who cannot see the Mystery are truly blind. I agree with that. As I recall, Hawkins in one his books said that we are not to question what there was before the big bang. That's like the pope saying we are not to question God. To me they are both blind. Darwin did good job of unraveling truth within the mystery, which is the job of science. Beware of those scientists who tell us that they will have an explanation of everything. A science religion.

We are all on that journey whether we know it or not. One can not "start" themselves on that. Spiritual awareness will come when one is ready for it. One does not have to change their life for it but it will change ones life. What are you expecting to happen? That expectation in itself may be a block. Forget about preconceived notions, religions, whatever others tell you. Their books usually cost $29.95, after all gurus have to eat too. If there is one thing one can do, it is to be as honest with oneself as possible. Having read your posts in this thread, I think you are well on your way.

Thank you Eaglewoman. I look forward to hear more about that book you are translating. And it's always interesting to read what you write yourself on the threads.

Good post Dude!!
Sometimes though, sharing one´s experiences or reading someone´s work, can resonate with our own perceptions or experiences or things we were wondering about ....
But ultimately, each person owns the key to their own awakening and the answers are always within.

An excellent book that had a great impact on me years ago when I was going through a very difficult and spiritual time, is "The teachings of Don Juan, a Yaqui way of knowledge".

According to scientists on the BBC, the odds are billions to one against us having physical bodies.
Everybody I know seems to have one.
