Question for the people that are back in the "dating scene".....

When you get involved in a new relationship chances are there are "children" involved....how willing are you to become a parent to children that are not your own??

What are your expectations of the person you are involving in your children's life...and what are their's of you with regards to your children and their own children??

If one has children them self, I am sure they understand the importance of this thread. Some may make the situation a governing factor whether or not they pursue a relationship with such "other".
"...become a parent to children that are not your own??..." May well depend if the mother or father figure is in the picture at all.
Even so, taking things slowly is certainly the way to start, a relationship also has to be established with the children. A well known therapist, Laura Shezlinger (spelling), has always said that the person entering the relationship should not be in the position to disipline the child till he/she has been in the relationship twice the amount of the years of the child in question...at the time the relationship has started.. my 2cents

For me personaly if I date someone. I am not expecting them to be a parent to my children. My children have their father. To me all I want is my partner to respect my children. To give them attention and the love they deserve and be a great friend to them.

I agree with Katine. I don't expect them to parent my kids but to give them respect as they have been with me for longer than anyone I may become involved with. If they to have kids then I would expect it to be the same set of rules for me as well.

My first and formost concern is how it will affect my kids. Im not going to bring my kids into the picture if her kids are an undiciplined, foul mouthed rabble. Im not going to bring my kids into a situation where they may be bullied or picked on. If any of these scenarios are potentially there, it doesn't matter how I feel about "mum", Im gone. Thats why Im so adament about leaving the kids out of the picture till I can check out the situation.

A good indicater of how a potential partner will be with your kids is to see how they interact with their own kids. I dated a woman who would just wig out on her kids verbally. Cursing and swearing at 5 and 7 year olds! Total rage-aholic stuff.
